Stenhousemuir players devasted by Irons departure

McGoldrick set to get to work with Warriors

Stenhousemuir Assistant Manager Kevin McGoldrick knows that he will meet up with a disappointed group of players at Ochilview tonight in the wake of manager David Irons’ resignation.

David IronsIrons left his post after 18 months on Tuesday night after a 3-1 defeat from Hamilton Accies in a Friendly match reportedly due to work commitments and his decision has left the Warriors shattered.

McGoldrick explained, “The players were devastated when they heard the news after the Hamilton game as this club has turned around a lot during his time here. We were bottom of the League when he started and just missed out on a Play-Off place last season after rebuilding the squad.”

“I was devastated as well as I really enjoyed working with him and learned a lot that I can put to use in the rest of my career.”

Former Motherwell and Falkirk defender Martyn Corrigan will help McGoldrick prepare the Stenhousemuir players for Saturday’s Friendly against Stirling Albion as the club begin a search for a new boss with McGoldrick saying, “Martyn and I have taken training quite a few times in the past as David has not been available so it will not be a total shock to the players. The Stirling game will have a wee bit of extra spice as it is a local derby and it will help the players prepare for the big kick off against Stranraer in the Ramsdens Cup on July 24.”
