Celtic

Stevie Chalmers

Everyone at the SPFL are saddened to learn of the passing of Lisbon Lion Stevie Chalmers at the age of 83.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those at Celtic FC at this very difficult time.

Stevie famously scored the winning goal in the 1967 European Cup final in Lisbon as Jock Stein's team beat Inter Milan 2-1 to become the first British club to lift the trophy.

He joined Celtic in 1959 and scored 231 goals in 406 appearances before joining Morton in 1971 and ending his senior career with Partick Thistle.

A Scotland internationalist, Stevie scored against Brazil in a 1966 friendly at Hampden and was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
