Stranraer have prepared for life in the Second Division following their recent promotion by signing centre back Mark Staunton from Junior side Beith with the former Celtic youngster out to make a success of his second chance in the senior ranks.
The 23-year-old left the Parkhead side in 2006 when Charlton Athletic paid £110,000 for his services, however his time in London was brief and he headed back north the following year to join Falkirk.
Staunton never featured for the Bairns first team, however he gained experience during a loan spell at Berwick Rangers before joining East Fife on a permanent basis in 2009.
After a year at New Bayview, Staunton turned Junior and his performances for the Ayrshire side attracted the attention of Blues boss Keith Knox who is delighted with his capture.
Knox said, “Mark has impressed in pre-season and I am pleased to bring him here. He has a great grounding in the game and hopefully he will find Stranraer an excellent platform to show that.”
