Wins for St Johnstone and Hearts

St Johnstone upset the odds by earning a 2-1 victory over Rangers at McDiarmid Park in the early cinch Premiership game on Sunday.

James Brown opened the scoring with a stunning strike just before half-time and Nicky Clark doubled Saints' lead before James Tavernier pulled one back.

It was the Perth club's first home win over Rangers since a 4-1 success in March 2010.

Heart of Midlothian edged out Motherwell 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Tynecastle to move up to fourth place in the table.

Hearts had Jorge Grant sent off then went 2-0 up through an Andy Halliday double but Louis Moult (penalty) and Blair Spittal hauled the Steelmen level.

Lawrence Shankland grabbed the winner from the penalty spot in the last minute after Sondre Solholm Johansen handled in the box.
