Premier Sports Cup

Team of the Round

Dundee's Paul McMullan is the star man in our Team of the Round for Premier Sports Cup matchday 2!

GK – Marc McCallum (Forfar Athletic)
The Forfar shot-stopper replicated Gigi Donnarumma’s penalty shoot-out heroics, saving a pair of spot-kicks to win a bonus point for the Loons against Angus rivals Montrose.

DEF – Willie Gibson (Queen of the South)
Is Willie Gibson the most versatile player in the SPFL? The Queens stalwart was typically excellent, even when deployed at the unfamiliar position of centre back. He also made a sensational 50-yard run to set up Ally Roy for the Doonhamers’ third goal in their 3-1 win over Annan!

DEF – Liam Henderson (Arbroath)
It was an impressive performance from the former Edinburgh City man. His awareness and defensive capabilities helped the Lichties keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over East Fife, despite being down to 10 men for the last half hour, with midfielder David Gold between the sticks!

DEF – Charles Dunne (St. Mirren)
Dunne slotted seamlessly into a Saints back three, alongside Joe Shaughnessy and Marcus Fraser. The former Motherwell man helped to keep the Dunfermline attack at bay, with the Buddies keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win.

MID – Paul McMullan (Dundee)
McMullan is loving life in the Dark Blue half of Dundee! He was involved in all four goals in the Dee’s 4-0 win over Brora Rangers, scoring twice and assisting the other two. He is the Matchday 2 Star Man!

MID – Brad Spencer (Raith Rovers)
John McGlynn’s side seem to be picking up exactly where they left off last season, playing some scintillating stuff as they swept aside Brechin City at Stark’s Park. Spencer was at the heart of much of Rovers’ good play and found the net twice.

MID – Andy Halliday (Heart of Midlothian)
Equally impressive at both the pretty and ugly side of the game, Halliday gave a great account of himself in the Jambos’ 3-0 win over Cove Rangers. The midfielder opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a low, driven strike.

MID – James Lyon (Stenhousemuir)
WHAT. A. PERFORMANCE. Young midfielder Lyon put in a Man of the Match display in the Warriors’ 2-1 win at Dumbarton. The on-loan Partick Thistle youngster’s trickery and tenacity caused mayhem for the Sons defence all evening, and his efforts were rewarded with a sensational second-half strike which curled into the top corner.

FWD – Callumn Morrison (Falkirk)
The Bairns played some swashbuckling stuff at times in their 5-1 win over Albion Rovers. Morrison was arguably the best of the bunch, scoring two, assisting another and generally giving the Wee Rovers’ defence a torrid time. He was unlucky not to have a hat-trick to his name, seeing a second-half penalty well saved by Cammy Binnie.

FWD – Lawrence Shankland (Dundee United)
It’s the second Team of the Round appearance in a week for the Terrors talisman. Shankland scored twice at Tannadice, with United coming back from a goal down to beat Elgin City 6-1.

FWD – Tomi Adeloye (Ayr United)
The Honest Men’s new recruit will be enjoying his first taste of Scottish football. The former Barnet striker scored twice and threatened throughout in a 3-0 win against Edinburgh City at Somerset Park.
