Team of the Week

Craig Fowler from A View from the Terrace names his cinch SPFL XI after the weekend's games...

GK - Mark Ridgers (Inverness CT)

Inverness CT secured an important victory in the cinch Championship, defeating Ayr United 3-1 at Somerset Park. Defender Morgan Boyes scored twice in the match but we’ve opted for goalkeeper Ridgers from Duncan Ferguson’s side.

The long-time Inverness custodian made a crucial save from Logan Chalmers with the game still finely poised at 0-0.

DEF - Kanayo Megwa (Airdrieonians)

The best player on the pitch as Airdrieonians defeated cinch Championship leaders Raith Rovers with a 1-0 win in Lanarkshire. The Hibs loanee made nine defensive interceptions and was a menace going forward for Rhys McCabe’s men.

DEF - Brian Easton (East Fife)

The Fifers got themselves a big away victory in cinch League Two, going to promotion-hopefuls Dumbarton and winning 2-1 to continue to climb up the table. Easton was a rock at the back for the visitors.

DEF - Nicky Jamieson (Stenhousemuir)

Stenhousemuir have now won 10 consecutive matches in cinch League 2 after defeating Forfar Athletic 2-1 and lead the division by a whopping 14 points. Jamieson and Gregor Buchanan, along with goalkeeper Darren Jamieson, have been the foundation of their success this season. Both defenders scored and had excellent games against Forfar, but let’s give the nod to Jamieson as he netted the second-half winner.

DEF - Harry Milne (Partick Thistle)

Six points away from second and nine points ahead in third, Thistle have the unusual distinction of being in a world of their own in the cinch Championship and they kept moving along this past weekend with a 4-0 home win over Arbroath. Milne put in an excellent showing down the left and even bagged an assist.

MID - Dayshonne Golding (Elgin City)

The Black and Whites’ new loan signing made an immediate impact in his club’s 2-1 win over Stranraer, a result which pushes them up into eighth place in cinch League 2, six points above the bottom. Though he didn’t score, Golding’s directness and threat on the ball were key factors in the victory.

MID - Aidan Nesbitt (Falkirk)

Though Queen of the South had more possession in their trip to the Falkirk Stadium, it was the hosts who dominated the goalmouth action from start to finish, having 15 shots to just one. For the most part, however, they were frustrated by a resolute defensive performance from Queens. Nesbitt, however, was able to find the winner a minute into the second half and was consistently the most dangerous player in the home team’s ranks.

MID - Ray Grant (Clyde)

Grant’s first start of the season demonstrated exactly what Clyde have been missing this year as the Bully Wee got their first league victory since September with a 3-2 win over Bonnyrigg Rose. Having made the long return from injury, Grant made a crucial contribution in his hour on the field – dominating midfield as the hosts secured a three-goal lead at the break.

MID - Kevin Cawley (Alloa Athletic)

They left it late, but Alloa got their third victory in a five-game unbeaten run with a 3-1 win over Edinburgh City. Cawley struck in the 89th minute to put the Wasps ahead and his impressive display in both central and wide positions earns him a place in this XI.

FWD - George Oakley (Greenock Morton)

This week’s Star Man could only come from a thriller at Tannadice where Greenock Morton continued their revival with a 3-2 triumph over Dundee United to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games.

Oakley netted all three goals, scoring twice in the first half to put them 2-0 up and then an 88th-minute winner for good measure.

FWD - Ruari Paton (Queen’s Park)

Queen’s Park ended a winless run of 15 games with a huge 2-1 victory over Dunfermline Athletic on Friday night, a result which moves them back off the bottom of the second tier.

Paton got the first goal and put in a power of work for the home side.
