Team of the Week

Craig Fowler from A View from the Terrace names his SPFL XI after the weekend's games...

GK - Joe Hart (Celtic)

The Scottish Cup holders scored twice without reply in their fifth-round match with St Mirren at the weekend, but it was a tougher outing for the Parkhead side than the score might suggest. The defence had to be at their best in the face of sustained pressure from the hosts, and when they weren't Hart was on hand to help them out with a couple of top-class saves.

DEF - Craig Ross (Stranraer)

Finn Ecrepont may have stolen the headlines with a 70-yard strike to seal the 2-0 victory against Clyde in cinch League 2, but the man-of-the-match from Stranraer's victory was the other full-back Craig Ross.

DEF - Jack Thomson (Queen’s Park)

The renaissance under Callum Davidson continued for the Spiders this past weekend with a 3-0 away win in the cinch Championship over Dunfermline Athletic. While Dom Thomas excelled against his old club, we've gone for centre-back Thomson, whose composure on the ball and ability to dribble it out from defence was of huge benefit to his side's performance.

DEF - Wullie Gibson (Annan Athletic)

The 39-year-old impressed from left-back and managed to get on the scoresheet as Annan notched up one of the results of the season in cinch League 1 with a 3-2 victory at title challengers Hamilton Accies. The gap is seven points, but this kind of result could give Annan a real confidence boost in their bid to haul themselves out of ninth place and avoid the uncertainty of the play-offs.

MID - Martin Boyle (Hibs)

Hibs avoided a Scottish Cup banana-skin with a 3-1 victory away at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Boyle scored one and set up another in the victory.

MID - Calem Nieuwenhof (Hearts)

Hibs' Edinburgh rivals also comfortably came out on top in Lanarkshire, racing into an early 3-0 lead en route to a 4-1 victory over Airdrieonians. Nieuwenhof got on the scoresheet and impressed with both his industry and passing in the result.

MID - Mark Gallagher (Elgin City)

The Black and Whites got their first away victory over the season thanks to Mitchell Taylor's late goal in the 2-1 win over Spartans. For this team, we've opted for Gallagher for the second week in a row after he scored the opening goal and put in a hard-working shift in the middle of the park.

MID - Mohammed Sylla (Dundee)

Dundee left it late to come from behind and grab all three points over St Johnstone in the only cinch Premiership game of the weekend. Sylla shone in the centre of the park as he expertly protected the defence.

MID - Oscar Cortes (Rangers)

Rangers fans are already in love with the January signing after Saturday's 2-0 win over Ayr United in the Scottish Cup. The Colombian constantly ran at his marker and lit up the game at Ibrox.

FWD - Joel Nouble (Livingston)

Livingston showed tremendous spirit to recover from 2-0 down against Partick Thistle to claim a 3-2 victory and a place in the last eight of the Scottish Cup. Tete Yengi may have netted the winner but Nouble makes it into this side after his earlier double had forced extra time. It was a welcome return to form for the attacker who was a constant menace to the Thistle back line.

FWD - George Oakley (Greenock Morton)

This week's Star Man comes from Friday's shock result in the Scottish Cup as Morton knocked out cinch Premiership visitors Motherwell with a 2-1 win. Many Morton players excelled in the victory, but we've opted for Oakley. The forward scored what would ultimately prove to be the winning goal while also winning the physical battle with the Motherwell defenders.
