The 2010 CPISRA European Football 7 a side Championships held recently in Glasgow has been nominated by Scottish Disability Sport as a contender for the Sunday Mail Event of the Year

2010 CPISRA European Football 7 a side ChampionshipThe 2010 CPISRA European Football 7 a side Championships held recently in Glasgow has been nominated by Scottish Disability Sport as a contender for the Sunday Mail Event of the Year which will be presented to the successful winner at the Annual Sunday Mail Sports Awards Dinner to be held on 2 December 2010 in Glasgow's Hilton Hotel. 

The nomination submitted by SDS included the following:

2010 CPISRA European Football 7 a side Championships Scottish Disability Sport in partnership with the Scottish FA secured the rights to host the Cerebral Palsy International Sport & Recreation Association (CPISRA)Football 7 a side European Championships in Glasgow during August.

The Championship were held at the new Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow with accommodation provided by Strathclyde University. Teams from Denmark, England, Finland, Holland, Republic of Ireland, Russia, Scotland, Spain and Ukraine were joined by guest nation, Australia, for the 2010 Championships.

Ukraine emerged as European Champions after 11 days of competition, with Scotland defeating England 1-0 in their play off match to finish in 5th place, their highest ever finish in a major competition. These Championships were hailed as a huge success by everyone involved and have made a massive contribution to raising the profile of disability football and disability sport in general across Scotland.

2010 CPISRA European Football 7 a side Championships This was endorsed by Tom Langen, Chair of the CPISRA Football 7 a side Committee who hailed the Glasgow Championships as "the most successful ever", at the closing ceremony. The Championships were co-ordinated by staff from the Scottish FA in conjunction with Scottish Disability Sport and funding partners EventScotland, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, UK Sport, Capability Scotland, Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council and sportscotland.
