• Motherwell are the 3rd longest-serving members of the cinch Premiership – this will be their 38th consecutive top-flight season, a run which started in 1985/86 (pictured). Only Celtic and Aberdeen have longer active unbroken spells in the top tier of Scottish football.
• FC Edinburgh will be making their debut in the 3rd tier of Scottish football this season – they gained promotion to cinch League 1 after defeating Annan Athletic 3-2 on aggregate in the play-off final. They have returned to their previous home of Meadowbank Stadium after five seasons at Ainslie Park.
• Heart of Midlothian finished in 3rd place last season’s cinch Premiership table – their highest finish in 6 years. They will be aiming to record back-to-back top-three finishes for the first time in 19 years – the last time they did so was in 2002/03 and 2003/04 under Craig Levein.
• Inverness Caledonian Thistle finished 3rd in last season’s cinch Championship before making it all the way through to the Premiership play-off final. Having finished just 8 points behind champions Kilmarnock, they may have their eye on a title challenge in 2022/23. The Caley Jags have finished in the top 3 of the division in 3 of the last 4 seasons.
• Falkirk will be aiming to end a four-year stint in the 3rd tier and go into the season with optimism following a strong performance in the Premier Sports Cup group stage. The Bairns are under new management, with John McGlynn seeking to win the cinch League 1 title for the third time in his career – he won the division with Raith Rovers in 2008/09 and 2019/20.
