Hibernian were 3-1 winners against Highland League champions Brora Rangers at Easter Road in Group B, helped by a double from Stevie Mallan.
Dundee United thumped Brechin City 6-2 at Glebe Park, with Nicky Clark and Cammy Smith both scoring twice. St Johnstone beat Kelty Hearts 2-1 at New Central Park in the other Group C fixture.
In Group D, Montrose stormed back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Ross County at Links Park. Andrew Steeves grabbed a last-minute leveller but the Staggies won the shoot-out 5-4 to earn the bonus point.
St Mirren defeated Partick Thistle 4-1 in Paisley in their Group G fixture, with three of their goals coming in the last 15 minutes.
Alloa Athletic were 2-0 winners away to Airdrieonians in Group H.
