13 – Aberdeen moved into the Betfred Cup quarter-finals thanks to a 2-1 victory over Dundee. Derek McInnes’ side were on the verge of elimination but Andy Considine’s stoppage-time equaliser set up extra time and Sam Cosgrove scored the winning goal. Sunday’s win was the Dons’ 13th in a row against Dundee in all competitions – the last time they failed to win was in May 2015, when the sides drew 1-1 at Dens Park. Aberdeen have racked up a 32-4 aggregate scoreline across those 13 matches – incredibly, Considine is their top scorer with six goals, including a hat-trick in a 7-0 win in March 2017.

8 – Hibernian defeated Greenock Morton 5-3 after extra time to move into the Betfred Cup quarter-finals. The Hibees have kicked off the campaign with four wins out of four at Easter Road and have still not lost to a side outside last season’s top six since Paul Heckingbottom took over in February. Hibs have been involved in several high-scoring matches in recent years; amazingly this is the fifth time since the start of 2017 that a Hibs game has featured eight or more goals – there had only been four in the 13 years prior to that.
Recent Hibernian matches featuring eight or more goals:
21/01/2017 – Bonnyrigg Rose 1-8 Hibernian (Scottish Cup – played at Tynecastle)
28/04/2018 – Hibernian 5-3 Kilmarnock (Premiership)
13/05/2018 – Hibernian 5-5 Rangers (Premiership)
19/07/2018 – NSI Runavik 4-6 Hibernian (Europa League)
17/08/2019 – Hibernian 5-3 Greenock Morton (League Cup)
3 – Partick Thistle recorded the only real upset of Betfred Cup round two, defeating Ross County 3-2 after extra time at Firhill. Gary Caldwell’s side are the only Ladbrokes Championship side remaining in the competition – this is their third Betfred Cup quarter-final in the last six seasons, but they have not made it to the semi-final since 1975/76. It was the Jags’ first cup victory over a side in a higher division since 2002, when they defeated SPL side Dundee 2-1 at Dens Park in the Scottish Cup, with Andy Gibson scoring the winning goal. This is just the sixth time since Thistle joined the SFL in 1893 that they’ve beaten higher-ranked opposition in a knock-out tie, though of course they have only spent 35 seasons outside the top flight.
Partick Thistle knock-out wins v higher division opponents:
27/01/1900 – Partick Thistle 2-1 St Bernard’s [2 v 1]
09/02/1983 – Kilmarnock 0-1 Partick Thistle [1 v 2]
31/01/1989 – St Mirren 1-3 Partick Thistle [1 v 2]
19/02/2000 – Partick Thistle 2-1 Livingston [3 v 2]
06/02/2002 – Dundee 1-2 Partick Thistle [1 v 2]
17/08/2019 – Partick Thistle 3-2 Ross County [2 v 1]
3 – Dumbarton picked up their first three points of the Ladbrokes League 1 season after coming from 2-0 down to beat Peterhead 3-2 at Balmoor. Jim Duffy’s side had suffered six consecutive defeats since beating Annan Athletic 1-0 in their opening Betfred Cup match, and will hope that Saturday’s turnaround kick-starts their season. The last time the Sons came from two goals behind to win was in March 2013, when they defeated Raith Rovers 4-2 at the C&G Systems Stadium. Amazingly, the last time they did so away from home was just four days before that, when they defeated Dunfermline 4-3 having trailed 2-0 and 3-1.
23/03/2013 – Dunfermline Athletic 3 (Wallace 41, Barrowman 49, 56) Dumbarton 4 (McDougall 51, 84, Turner 59, Agnew 65)
27/03/2013 – Dumbarton 4 (Lister 36, 64, 84, Agnew 70) Raith Rovers 2 (Spence 4, Anderson 25)
12 – Annan Athletic remain level on points at the top of Ladbrokes League 2 thanks to a 3-2 home victory over Albion Rovers. The Galabankies have two wins and a draw from their opening three league fixtures and are behind Cove Rangers and Queen’s Park only on goal difference. Peter Murphy’s side are unbeaten at home in the league in 2019 – their last loss at Galabank came against Edinburgh City in December. Their streak of 12 home league matches undefeated is the third longest in the SPFL – only Celtic and Ross County are on longer runs.
20 – Celtic
13 – Ross County
12 – Annan Athletic
12 – Rangers
11 – Forfar Athletic
[19 - Cove Rangers (17 of these were in the Highland League)]
