5 – Heart of Midlothian picked up their second Ladbrokes Premiership victory of the season, defeating St Mirren 5-2 at Tynecastle to climb to ninth in the table. It was the Jam Tarts’ first home league win since they defeated Aberdeen 2-1 in March and the first time in over a year they had scored more than two goals in a Premiership fixture. The last time Hearts scored five or more times in the league was in August 2016, when they defeated Inverness 5-1 – not a single player who featured in that game was involved on Saturday. The weekend win was the ninth time this century Hearts have scored five or more goals in the top flight – all of them came at Tynecastle, with their last five-goal haul away from home coming at Pittodrie in 1999.

3 – Hibernian thumped St Johnstone 4-1 at McDiarmid Park to pick up their first Ladbrokes Premiership victory since the opening day. Summer signing Christian Doidge finally announced himself to the Hibs supporters, netting his first, second and third league goals of the season, with Scott Allan adding the other. It was Doidge’s first hat-trick since March 2014, when he netted three times for Carmarthen Town in their 6-1 win over Newtown in the Welsh Premier League. Doidge is the first Welshman to score a hat-trick in the top flight since John Hartson in Celtic’s 4-4 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park in July 2005. He is just the fourth player Hibernian player in the last 40 years to score a treble away from home in the top tier.

3 – Arbroath defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-0 at Gayfield to move to within touching distance of the promotion play-off places in the Ladbrokes Championship. Dick Campbell’s side have won four of their last five matches and sit in fifth place, just a point behind third-placed Dundee and behind fourth-placed Inverness by a single goal. The Red Lichties have recorded three consecutive home league wins – the last time they did so in the second tier was back in February and March 2003, when, just as this time, their third win came against Inverness. That was the last occasion prior to Saturday that Arbroath defeated Inverness – they had picked up one draw and eight defeats in nine meetings since.

6 – Montrose moved to within three points of the Ladbrokes League 1 promotion play-off places thanks to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Forfar Athletic at Links Park. Stewart Petrie’s side have had a topsy-turvy start to the season – after drawing with Stranraer on the opening day, they suffered six consecutive defeats but have now bounced back with six wins on the spin. This is the club’s best winning run in 35 years – the last time they won six in a row was back in October 1984, when Ian Stewart’s side went on to win the Second Division (third tier) title.
