Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers behind the weekend games in the SPFL...

45 – Rangers defeated Motherwell 2-0 at Fir Park to remain two points off the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership. The Gers have not lost to Well in the league since Boxing Day 2002 – since then they have faced them 45 times, winning 33 and drawing 12. The Steelmen have beaten Rangers three times in other competitions – in both legs of the 2014/15 Premiership play-off final and the 2017/18 Betfred Cup semi-final. Steven Gerrard’s side remain unbeaten away from home in 11 domestic matches this season – they have picked up nine wins and two draws on the road.

Rangers’ longest active unbeaten league runs

38 – Dumbarton
25 – Partick Thistle
20 – Raith Rovers
18 – Dunfermline Athletic

1 – St Johnstone climbed off the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle. Incredibly, this was Saints’ first away win of 2019 – in 19 previous matches on the road in all competitions they had drawn six and lost 13. This sequence was all the more surprising given that they had finished 2018 with a club run of six consecutive away league wins.

Home: P20 W9 D3 L8 F25 A24
Away: P20 W1 D6 L13 F10 A43

8 – Dundee United defeated Arbroath 1-0 away from home to extend their lead at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship to 13 points. This was United’s first league visit to Gayfield since November 1974 and they took all three points thanks to Sam Stanton’s early goal. Robbie Neilson’s side have now won eight consecutive games – this is the first time the Terrors have done so since 1996/97, when they finished third in the Premier Division.

4 – Montrose thrust themselves into the already congested Ladbrokes League 1 title race by thumping Clyde 4-0 at Links Park. Stewart Petrie’s side remain fifth in the table but are just six points behind leaders Raith Rovers as we approach the halfway mark. This was the Gable Endies’ biggest home win in nearly seven years – the last time they won by a four-goal margin at Links Park was back in February 2013, when they defeated Annan Athletic 5-1.

Paul Hartley’s side had lost their previous two matches, away to Annan Athletic and Edinburgh City.
