Livingston William Hill Premiership

Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

5 – Livingston defeated Dundee United 2-0 at the Tony Macaroni Arena to climb to ninth place in the Premiership table. Goals from Scott Pittman and Marvin Bartley handed Livi their second win in a row to ensure that the Lions remain outside the relegation places. Livingston have won each of their last five home league matches against Dundee United, a run which stretches all the way back to December 2005 – this is the longest active run they have against any club. The last time the Terrors won in West Lothian was back in February 2005, when James Grady and Stevie Crawford scored in a 2-0 win.

13 – Rangers moved 13 points clear at the top of the Premiership thanks to a 4-0 victory over Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium. James Tavernier was among the scorers, to take his tally to 10 league goals for the season, moving him two clear of Kevin Nisbet and Lewis Ferguson in the race to be Premiership top scorer. The victory extended Rangers’ run to 24 matches unbeaten in all competitions – they have picked up 20 wins and four draws since losing to Bayer Leverkusen in August. Steven Gerrard’s side have now kept 14 clean sheets in their 16 Premiership matches this season, and this was the fifth occasion they have scored four or more goals in 2020/21.

32 – Heart of Midlothian defeated Morton 2-0 at Cappielow to return to the top of the Championship table. Jamie Walker scored a double for the first time since a 4-1 victory over Rangers in February 2017 to ensure the three points returned to Edinburgh. “Robocop” and “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” were in the cinema the last time these clubs had faced each other in a competitive fixture – that was 32 years ago, when Hearts won 2-0 at Tynecastle in March 1988 thanks to a Mike Galloway double.

1 – Montrose climbed to fifth in the League 1 table after coming from behind to record a 2-1 away win over Cove Rangers. Stewart Petrie’s side became the first visiting team to win a league match at Balmoral Stadium – Cove had previously picked up and incredible 33 wins and 1 draw in 34 matches at the stadium in the Highland League, League 2 and League 1 since it opened in 2018. Cove’s last home league defeat was a 3-0 loss to Nairn County at Harlaw Park, Inverurie, in the Highland League in April 2018.

3 – Edinburgh City thumped Albion Rovers 5-2 at Ainslie Park to move up to third place in League 2. The Citizens were 3-0 up inside 16 minutes from a very unlikely source, with defender Liam Henderson netting a nine-minute hat-trick – unsurprisingly this was the first treble of his career. This was the third hat-trick scored by an Edinburgh City player since their promotion to the SPFL – the other two were both scored by Liam’s namesake Blair Henderson.
