Hibernian William Hill Premiership

Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

4 – Hibernian thumped Hamilton Academical 4-0 at the Foys Stadium to hold on to third place in the Premiership. Martin Boyle, Christian Doidge, Paul McGinn and Kevin Nisbet were all on target to extend Hibs’ unbeaten run in Hamilton to five matches. The last time Hibs had four different goalscorers in a league match was also against Accies – that was a 6-0 victory in October 2018. Saturday’s success was the Hibees’ biggest away win in any competition for over three years – the last time they triumphed by this margin was in April 2017 when they won 4-0 against Ayr United at Somerset Park in the Championship.

9 – St Mirren climbed off the bottom of the Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday. Jim Goodwin’s side are now unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions, which is their best run for 15 years. The last time Saints went as long without defeat was back in October-December 2005, when Gus MacPherson led his team to 10 matches without defeat on their way to winning the Division 1 title. Saints have visited Fir Park on three occasions in 2020, winning twice in the Premiership and also triumphing on penalties following a 4-4 draw in the Scottish Cup.

6 – Heart of Midlothian moved four points clear at the top of the Championship courtesy of a 6-1 victory over Queen of the South at Tynecastle. The victory extended the Jam Tarts’ unbeaten run against the Doonhamers to 20 matches in all competitions. Harold Macmillan was Prime Minister the last time the Dumfries side tasted success against Hearts – that was a 1-0 victory at Tynecastle back in October 1963.  Saturday marked Hearts’ biggest league win since they defeated Motherwell 6-0 at Tynecastle in January 2016 during Robbie Neilson’s first spell in charge.

8 – Falkirk defeated Clyde 3-0 at Broadwood to move six points clear at the top of League 1. David McCracken and Lee Miller have guided the Bairns to an unbeaten league start – they have picked up six wins and two draws from their opening eight fixtures. This is just the fourth time in their history that Falkirk have gone eight matches without defeat at the start of a season – they previously achieved this in 1921/22 (8 matches), 1947/48 (11 matches) and 2002/03 (8 matches).

3 – Albion Rovers moved up to eighth in League 2 thanks to a 3-1 victory over Elgin City at the Reigart Stadium. A double from Matty Aitken and a goal from Joseph Moore ensured that Rovers picked up their second win of the season to move three points clear of the bottom spot. It was Albion Rovers’ first win in Coatbridge since they defeated Brechin City 4-1 back in February.
