Weekend in Numbers

Resident statto @SPLstats examines the numbers from the weekend's #cinchSPFL action...

5 – Livingston picked up their first victory of the cinch Premiership season by beating Celtic 1-0 at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Andrew Shinnie scored the only goal of the game, his first in the Scottish top flight since he scored for Inverness Caledonian Thistle against Motherwell in May 2013. Livi are now unbeaten in their last five home matches against Celtic – they have picked up two wins and three draws since being promoted in 2018. Celtic’s last victory over Livingston at Almondvale was in the Scottish Cup back in January 2007, although they did also beat Gretna there in the SPL just over a year later.

11 – Dundee United defeated Dundee 1-0 at Tannadice in the first Dundee derby in the cinch Premiership in over five years. Ian Harkes scored a late winner to move Thomas Courts’ side up to fifth in the league and send their rivals to the bottom of the table. The Terrors are now unbeaten in their last 11 home matches against the Dark Blues - United defender Kerr Smith wasn’t even born the last time Dundee won at Tannadice, back in August 2004.

12 – Kilmarnock beat Partick Thistle 2-0 at Firhill to maintain their 100% away record in the cinch Championship. Kevin Holt scored an own goal before Oli Shaw sealed the victory with his first goal for Killie since joining last month. The Ayrshire side have won each of their last four matches against Thistle, three of them at Firhill – their best run in the fixture since 2003/04. Killie are unbeaten on their last 12 visits to face Thistle in Glasgow – “Dirrty” by Christina Aguilera was the UK number 1 the last time the Jags beat Killie at home, that was back in November 2002.

12 – Dumbarton climbed to second in the cinch League 1 table thanks to an impressive 2-1 victory over Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium. Kalvin Orsi and Callum Wilson scored the goals to ensure that Stevie Farrell’s side recorded their third consecutive victory. The Sons had previously gone 12 matches without a win against the Bairns – their last success was back in December 2016, when an Aaron Muirhead own goal and a strike from Garry Fleming handed them a 2-1 win. Dumbarton have won three of their four away matches this season in cinch League 1 – this is already more than they managed in the entirety of last season.

3 – Kelty Hearts beat Albion Rovers 3-0 at the Reigart Stadium to maintain top spot in cinch League 2. Kevin Thomson’s newly-promoted side have picked up five wins and two draws in their first seven league matches as an SPFL club. Nathan Austin was the hero on Saturday, scoring all three goals to move him to the top of the cinch League 2 goalscoring charts with five goals in four matches. It was Austin’s first hat-trick in the SPFL since April 2018, when he netted three times for Inverness Caledonian Thistle against Dumbarton in the Championship. Austin now has five SPFL hat-tricks in total – he also scored three at this level for East Fife, also all away from home.
