3 – St Mirren defeated Aberdeen 3-2 at the SMISA Stadium to pick up their first win in the cinch Premiership this season. Saints had won just one of their previous 22 league matches against the Dons, stretching back over a decade, but did beat them in Paisley in the League Cup last season. Jim Goodwin’s side scored three goals in a home game on Sunday for the first time since December – they had only found the net five times in total in their previous 10 cinch Premiership matches in Paisley.
9 – Hibernian held on to second place in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over St Johnstone at Easter Road on Sunday. Martin Boyle scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot – he remains the league’s top scorer with six goals from seven matches. It was Hibs’ first league win over Saints in Edinburgh since August 2012, when Paul Hanlon and Eoin Doyle scored in a 2-0 win – they had lost four and drawn three since then. Jack Ross has led the Hibees to their best start to a top-flight season since 2007/08, when they also picked up four wins and three draws from their opening seven games.
0 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat Queen of the South 2-1 at the Caledonian Stadium to extend their lead at the top of the cinch Championship to three points. Michael Gardyne’s late winner gave Billy Dodds’ side their sixth win in seven league matches and maintained their 100% home record. Inverness have only lost two home league matches since the start of 2020. The Caley Jags have equalled their best ever start to a league season – the only other time they managed six wins and a draw from seven matches was in their 1998/99 Division 2 campaign.
4 – Stirling Albion thumped Cowdenbeath 4-0 at Forthbank to move up to second place in cinch League 2. Jack Leitch, Dylan Mackin, Dale Carrick and Sean Heaver were all on target for Kevin Rutkiewicz’s side as they picked up their fourth win in the last five league matches. It was the Binos’ biggest winning margin at home since August 2017, when they beat Berwick Rangers by the same scoreline.
