Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

100 – Rangers moved three points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-1 victory over St Mirren at the SMISA Stadium on Sunday. Saints took an early lead through Connor Ronan but goals from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos handed Steven Gerrard’s side the win. It was Morelos’ 100th goal for Rangers, a feat he achieved in his 199th appearance for the club. Morelos is just the third player to reach a century of goals for Rangers in the 2000s, joining Kris Boyd (138) and Kenny Miller (116).

20 – Celtic defeated St Johnstone 2-0 at Celtic Park in the cinch Premiership to make it four straight victories in all competitions. Giorgos Giakoumakis scored his first goal for the club before Josip Juranovic rounded off the win from the penalty spot to keep Ange Postecoglou’s side four points behind leaders Rangers. The Hoops are unbeaten in their last 20 matches against Saints in all competitions, a run which includes 17 wins and three draws. St Johnstone’s last victory over Celtic was in May 2016, when they recorded a 2-1 success at McDiarmid Park.

9 – Kilmarnock moved back up to second place in the cinch Championship thanks to a 2-1 victory over Hamilton Academical at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park. Goals from Oli Shaw and Daniel Armstrong handed Tommy Wright’s side their first win in four league matches and moved them to within three points of Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the summit. Killie are now unbeaten in their last nine matches against Accies in Ayrshire, a run which includes six wins and three draws – Hamilton’s last win in Kilmarnock was in the Scottish Cup in January 2017.

5 – Airdrieonians moved level on points with Queen’s Park and Cove Rangers at the top of cinch League 1 thanks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Dumbarton at the Penny Cars Stadium. The match featured two Airdrie penalties, three Dumbarton red cards and three goals in the 90th minute or later, with Airdrie eventually sealing success with a 96th minute Salim Kouider-Aissa goal. Ian Murray’s side have now won five of their last six League 1 matches, with the only exception being a 1-0 loss away to Cove.

4 – Kelty Hearts defeated Buckie Thistle 4-1 at New Central Park to move into round 3 of the Scottish Cup. The cinch League 2 leaders were facing Buckie for the first time and sealed the win thanks to goals from Thomas O’Ware, Joe Cardle (2) and Ross Philp. Kelty maintained their 100% record against Highland League opposition – their only previous competitive meeting with a club from that division came in the Pyramid play-off last season when they defeated Brora Rangers in both legs on their way to earning promotion.
