4 – Rangers moved four points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership thanks to an emphatic 6-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park. The Steelmen took the lead but Steven Gerrard’s side came roaring back with goals from James Tavernier, Glen Kamara, Kemar Roofe and a treble from Fashion Sakala. The Zambian striker became just the fourth African player to score a hat-trick in the Scottish top flight – the others were South African Stan Williams for Aberdeen in 1945, Morocco’s Hicham Zerouali for the Dons in 2001 and Nigeria’s Sone Aluko for Rangers in 2012. The Light Blues scored six goals away from home in the top flight for the first time since 2002, when they defeated Dunfermline Athletic 6-0.
8 – Aberdeen defeated Heart of Midlothian 2-1 at Pittodrie in the cinch Premiership to continue their recent resurgence in form. Stephen Glass’ side trailed at half-time but goals from Marley Watkins and Lewis Ferguson made it seven points from their last three matches. The Dons are now unbeaten in their last eight home matches against the Jam Tarts, a run which consists of six wins and two draws. There hasn’t been an away win from either side in this fixture since May 2017, when Aberdeen picked up a 2-1 victory at Tynecastle.
4 – Arbroath beat Dunfermline Athletic 4-2 at Gayfield to move four points clear in the race for the play-off spots in the cinch Championship. The Red Lichties trailed 2-0 after 12 minutes but bounced back thanks to goals from Tam O’Brien, Joel Nouble, Bobby Linn and Mikey McKenna. Dick Campbell’s side have lost only one of their last 11 cinch Championship matches and are just four points behind leaders Kilmarnock. Arbroath are unbeaten in four games against Dunfermline at Gayfield since being promoted in 2019 – they have picked up three wins and a draw.
5 – Falkirk moved to within three points of the cinch League 1 leaders thanks to a 3-1 victory over Clyde at Broadwood on Saturday. Goals from Michael Ruth, Craig McGuffie and Charlie Telfer handed Falkirk their first away win in five matches. Paul Sheerin’s side remain fifth in the table but closed the gap on Cove Rangers and Queen’s Park, who drew 3-3 at the weekend. The Bairns have now won five consecutive matches against the Bully Wee since the start of last season – this marks their best ever run of victories against Clyde.
6 – Forfar Athletic defeated Stranraer 3-2 at Stair Park to continue their impressive start to the cinch League 2 season. Matty Aitken, Craig Thomson and Jamie Ness scored the goals to keep Gary Irvine’s side in third place and close the gap on leaders Kelty Hearts to seven points. The Loons are unbeaten in six matches in all competitions – they have picked up four wins and two draws since losing to Stirling Albion in early September. The win extends Forfar’s unbeaten run against Stranraer to five matches, with their last defeat coming back in April 2019.
