Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

11 – Heart of Midlothian thumped Dundee United 5-2 at Tynecastle to move three points clear in third place in the cinch Premiership table. Ben Woodburn scored a double and there were also goals from Alex Cochrane, Stephen Kingsley and Aaron McEneff as Robbie Neilson’s side maintained their unbeaten home record. Hearts are undefeated in their last 11 matches at Tynecastle in all competitions – they’ve picked up eight wins and three draws since their last defeat against Queen of the South back in March. This is the first time Hearts have scored five or more goals against Dundee United since 1968, when they beat them 6-5 at Tannadice in the Scottish Cup.

2 – Motherwell climbed to fifth place in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Kevin van Veen scored both goals for the Steelmen to double his tally for the season and hand Well their third win in their last four visits to the Granite City. Graham Alexander’s side have now recorded back-to-back wins over the Dons – this is the first time Motherwell have done so since 2011, when they won four games in a row. This was Motherwell’s first clean sheet in seven matches – their last one came in their previous game against Aberdeen back in September.

6 – Partick Thistle defeated Kilmarnock 1-0 at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park to move to within five points of their opponents at the top of the cinch Championship. Zak Rudden scored the only goal of the game to give Thistle their first win over the Ayrshire side in eight attempts. Ian McCall’s side are now unbeaten in their last six league matches, which is their best run in this division since their title-winning campaign in 2012/13. Jamie Sneddon has kept clean sheets in each of his last four matches – the only goal he has conceded in those six games was a consolation goal in a 6-1 win over Hamilton Accies.

1 – Airdrieonians surged to the top of cinch League 1 thanks to a 3-1 victory over Peterhead at the Penny Cars Stadium. The Diamonds were the only side in the division to win this weekend, thanks to goals from Dylan Easton, Kerr McInroy and Callum Smith. Ian Murray’s side have now recorded five consecutive home wins and have picked up 10 wins in their last 12 home league games including last season’s matches. Airdrie have lost just one of their last 10 matches against Peterhead – they’ve picked up eight wins and a draw, with their only defeat coming back in March of this year.

4 – Albion Rovers thrashed Edinburgh City 4-0 at Ainslie Park on Friday night to move seven points clear of bottom spot and to within six points of the play-offs in cinch League 2. Max Wright, James McGowan, Callum Wilson and Corey O’Donnell were all on the scoresheet as Brian Reid’s side extended their unbeaten run to four matches. Rovers have kept four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions for the first time since September-October 2009. This was Albion Rovers’ biggest away league win since they defeated East Stirlingshire 5-1 in May 2015.
