Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

3 – Dundee defeated Motherwell 3-0 at the Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park to move three points clear of Ross County at the foot of the cinch Premiership. Luke McCowan, Danny Mullen and Ryan Sweeney scored the goals to make it 10 points from their last six matches for James McPake’s side. The victory ended the Dark Blues’ run of nine league matches without a win over the Steelmen – they had picked up just a single point against Well since their previous success in April 2017. It was Dundee’s biggest league win at Dens Park since December 2018 when they defeated Hamilton Academical 4-0.

4 – Hibernian ended a run of five straight cinch Premiership defeats by coming from behind to beat St Johnstone 2-1 at McDiarmid Park. Jack Ross’ side trailed until the final 10 minutes, but goals from Kevin Nisbet and substitute Jamie Murphy sealed the victory. Murphy was the first sub to score a goal for Hibs since Christian Doidge netted against Motherwell on the opening weekend of the Premiership season. The Hibees have an excellent record in Perth – they have lost just one of their last eight away matches against Saints and have picked up wins on four of their last five visits.

7 – Partick Thistle moved into round four of the Scottish Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory over fellow cinch Championship side Dunfermline Athletic on Friday night. Ross Docherty scored a late winner for Ian McCall’s side to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions. The Jags have now kept seven clean sheets in a row, equalling a club record that was set exactly a century ago in 1921. Jamie Sneddon has gone 631 minutes without conceding a goal – the last player to score against him was Hamilton Academical’s David Moyo, who netted an 89th-minute consolation in a 6-1 Thistle win in mid-October.

5 – Alloa Athletic defeated Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic 5-0 to seal their place in round four of the Scottish Cup. A Euan Henderson hat-trick and two goals from Mouhamed Niang helped the cinch League 1 side to a comfortable victory over the Lowland League leaders. It was the first hat-trick of Henderson’s career and takes his tally to eight goals in his last six games. He is the first Alloa player to score a treble in the Scottish Cup since Kevin McDonald did so in a 4-2 victory over Raith Rovers in November 2010. This was the Wasps’ biggest win since they defeated Brechin City 6-1 back in April 2017.

5 – Edinburgh City reached round four of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win over East of Scotland League side Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale. Although this was an “away” fixture for City, LTHV also play at Ainslie Park and therefore the match took place in very familiar surroundings. Danny Handling and Innes Murray got the goals to ensure Gary Naysmith’s side progressed to the last 32. City are now unbeaten in their last five away matches in all competitions – they have picked up four wins and a draw since losing at Kelty in August.
