Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

4 – Aberdeen thumped St Mirren 4-1 at Pittodrie to move into the top half of the cinch Premiership. Doubles from Marley Watkins and Christian Ramirez handed Stephen Glass’ side their second win in four days and made it four wins in their last five home matches. The Dons won by three or more goals in the league at Pittodrie for the first time in over two years – the last time was a 3-0 win v Kilmarnock in November 2019. This was the first time two Aberdeen players had scored twice in a game since December 2018, when Sam Cosgrove and Andy Considine netted doubles in a 5-1 win over Dundee.

3 – Celtic remain four points off the top of the cinch Premiership thanks to a 3-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice. Goals from Tom Rogic, David Turnbull and Liam Scales made it four league wins in a row for Ange Postecoglou’s side, who have earned 25 points from their last nine league games. Celtic are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches against Dundee United in all competitions, racking up a 32-3 aggregate score. Their last defeat to the Terrors was in December 2014 when Nadir Ciftci and Stuart Armstrong scored in a 2-1 win for United at Tannadice.

1 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle moved to the top of the cinch Championship thanks to a 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock at the Caledonian Stadium on Friday night. The Caley Jags are now unbeaten in their last 12 home matches against Kilmarnock in all competitions, a run which extends back more than a decade. Inverness have picked up six wins and six draws since the Ayrshire side’s last win back in December 2010, when Craig Bryson, Liam Kelly and Jamie Hamill scored in a 3-1 win for Mixu Paatelainen’s Killie.

6 – Queen’s Park battered Falkirk 6-0 at Firhill to move back up to second spot in the cinch League 1 table. Laurie Ellis’ side had gone six games without a win before Saturday, but goals from Louis Longridge, Liam Brown (2), Luca Connell, Charlie Fox and Luis Longstaff handed them an emphatic victory. It equalled Queen’s Park’s biggest win in any competition in the last 40 years – they also beat Elgin City 6-0 in 2012 and Berwick Rangers 7-1 in 2019. Both those victories were in the fourth tier – you have to go back to September 1979 to find the last time the Spiders did so in the third tier – which was a 7-0 victory over Alloa Athletic.

14 – Cowdenbeath beat Stirling Albion 1-0 at Central Park to hand Maurice Ross his first victory in charge of the Blue Brazil. Fraser Mullen scored the only goal to end a run of 14 matches without a win in all competitions. Cowden’s last victory came against Fraserburgh in the SPFL Trust Trophy on August 10, and their only previous league win of the season came a few days before that against Elgin City. Cowdenbeath are now four points behind Elgin at the foot of the SPFL, although City have a game in hand.
