Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

32 – Rangers thumped Heart of Midlothian 5-0 at Ibrox to keep themselves within a point of Celtic at the top of the cinch Premiership. Alfredo Morelos scored twice before Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Fashion Sakala rounded off the victory, which extended the Gers’ home unbeaten league run to 32 matches. The Light Blues are unbeaten in their last 11 matches against Hearts at Ibrox, having picked up nine wins and two draws – their last defeat came on the opening day of the 2014/15 Championship season. Morelos’ double took his league tally for the season to 10 goals – he is the first Rangers player to reach double figures in the league in five consecutive seasons since Kris Boyd between 2005/06 and 2009/10.

1 – St Mirren moved to within a point of the top six in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road. Connor Ronan scored the only goal to make it four wins and a draw from five matches for Jim Goodwin’s side since they returned from the winter break. It ended the Buddies’ run of 12 matches without a win over Hibs – they had drawn five and lost seven since their last win over the Edinburgh side back in March 2017. On that occasion, Stelios Demetriou scored both goals to hand Saints a 2-0 win in the Championship.

12 – Arbroath defeated Kilmarnock 1-0 at Gayfield to move four points clear of their opponents at the summit of the cinch Championship. Jack Hamilton grabbed the goal as the Red Lichties recorded back-to-back wins over Killie for the first time since 1952. Dick Campbell’s side are unbeaten in their last 12 matches at Gayfield in all competitions – they have picked up seven wins and five draws since being knocked out of the Premier Sports Cup by St Johnstone on penalties. Arbroath have lost just once in their last 16 games, a 1-0 loss to Ayr United at Somerset Park.

1 – Alloa Athletic were the only winners in cinch League 1 at the weekend – they defeated Peterhead 1-0 at Balmoor to climb two points clear of the relegation play-off spot and move to within six points of the promotion play-offs. Euan Henderson scored his 12th goal of the season to end a run of eight matches without a win in all competitions. The Wasps kept a clean sheet for the first time in 16 league matches – the last time they shut out their opponents was in a 2-0 win over Montrose at Links Park in September.

6 – Forfar Athletic defeated Albion Rovers 2-0 at Station Park to move four points clear in the race for second spot in cinch League 2. Andy Munro scored both goals for the Loons, who remain 10 points behind runaway leaders Kelty Hearts. Gary Irvine’s side have been impressive in front of goal recently – they have scored two or more goals in eight of their last nine matches. Forfar have now recorded six consecutive victories against Rovers, with their last defeat coming back in August 2017.
