Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

24 – Celtic defeated Livingston 3-1 at the Tony Macaroni Arena to maintain their three-point lead at the top of the cinch Premiership table. Goals from Daizen Maeda and James Forrest plus a Nicky Devlin own goal ensured that the Hoops ended a run of five matches without a win in West Lothian. Celtic’s last victory in Livingston was actually a 3-0 success over Gretna in March 2008, a fixture which was moved as a result of the Fir Park pitch being unplayable. Their last away win over Livingston was a year earlier, when Derek Riordan scored a double in a 4-1 Scottish Cup win. Ange Postecoglou’s side are now unbeaten in 24 cinch Premiership matches – they have picked up 20 wins and four draws since losing on their previous visit to Livi back in September.

3 – Ross County moved into the top six of the cinch Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over St Mirren at the Global Energy Stadium. Joseph Hungbo’s penalty helped the Staggies climb above Dundee United and Motherwell on goal difference with just three matches remaining until the split. County have won each of their last three cinch Premiership matches, having previously just picked up six wins in their first 27 – it appears they are peaking at the right time, just as they did last season when they won their last three matches to stay up. The victory ended a run of seven matches without a win over St Mirren – their last success was back in September 2019.

4 – Ayr United thumped Raith Rovers 4-0 at Stark’s Park to take another step towards safety in the cinch Championship. A double from James Maxwell and goals from Tomi Adeloye and Sam Ashford ensured that Lee Bullen’s side moved up to sixth in the table, six points clear of Queen of the South in the play-off spot. The Honest Men have won each of their last three away matches, which is their best winning run on the road since November 2018. It was their biggest ever winning margin at Stark’s Park, and their biggest win over Raith at any venue since October 1959, when doubles from Peter Price and Billy Fulton handed them a 4-0 win at Somerset Park.

12 – Airdrieonians kept up the pressure at the top of cinch League 1 thanks to a 2-0 victory over Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium. A Callum Smith double gave Ian Murray’s side all three points and ensured they remained five behind leaders Cove Rangers with eight matches remaining. The Diamonds are now unbeaten in 12 league matches, picking up eight wins and four draws – this is their best run since a 19-match streak when they won this division in 2003/04.

4 – Kelty Hearts defeated Cowdenbeath 1-0 at Central Park to move closer to securing the cinch League 2 title. Joe Cardle scored the only goal of the game to maintain an 11-point lead for Kelty, who also have two games in hand over nearest rivals Annan Athletic. Kevin Thomson’s side now require a maximum of 14 points from their last 10 matches to ensure promotion in their debut season in the SPFL. Kelty have completed the clean sweep over their Fife rivals this season, picking up four wins out of four without conceding a goal.
