13 – Heart of Midlothian moved into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup courtesy of a thrilling 4-2 victory over St Mirren at Tynecastle on Saturday night. Robbie Neilson’s side led 2-0 through Beni Baningime and Peter Haring, were pegged back to 2-2, but then secured the win with goals from Aaron McEneff and Ellis Simms. The Jam Tarts have now beaten Saints four times this season in all competitions, the first time they have done so in a single season since 1985/86. Hearts are now unbeaten in 13 Scottish Cup ties at Tynecastle, winning 10 and drawing three – their last defeat was back in November 2014 when they were beaten 4-0 by Celtic.
3 – Kilmarnock moved to the top of the cinch Championship thanks to a 3-1 victory over Ayr United at Somerset Park on Friday night. Killie raced into a 3-0 lead inside 16 minutes thanks to goals from Rory McKenzie, Oli Shaw and Jack Sanders and earned the Ayrshire bragging rights with their third win out of four over their rivals this season. The last time Killie scored three goals in a game at Somerset Park was back in November 1991, when Tommy Burns, Ally Mitchell and Bobby Williamson were on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win. Derek McInnes’ side have picked up four wins and a draw in their last five cinch Championship matches, which is their best run of results this season.
20 – Greenock Morton defeated Partick Thistle 2-1 at Cappielow to continue their impressive recent form in the cinch Championship. Gavin Reilly and Robbie Muirhead scored inside the last 15 minutes as the Ton came from behind to gain the three points which take them up to sixth place in the Championship. Dougie Imrie’s side have picked up 20 points from 10 matches in 2022, the joint-highest tally in the division alongside Kilmarnock. Morton have still not lost at home since Imrie took over – their last defeat in Greenock was in December when they were beaten 6-1 by Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
13 – Airdrieonians kept up the pressure at the top of cinch League 1 with an impressive 4-1 victory over Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium. A Callum Smith double and goals from Calum Gallagher and Scott McGill ensured that Ian Murray’s side remain within five points of leaders Cove Rangers, who visit Airdrie in a fortnight’s time. The Diamonds are now unbeaten in 13 league matches since Christmas – they have picked up nine wins and four draws but have been unable to make up much ground on Cove, who are themselves unbeaten in 19. Saturday’s success was Airdrie’s fourth consecutive win at the Falkirk Stadium – prior to this run they had never beaten Falkirk at that ground.
2 – Annan Athletic defeated Elgin City 2-1 to move further clear in second place in cinch League 2 and further cement their place in the promotion play-off spots. Tommy Goss scored both goals, with the winner coming in the 80th minute, to move the Galabankies six points clear of third-placed Forfar Athletic, and 12 ahead of fifth-placed Stenhousemuir. Peter Murphy’s side have won five of their last six league matches, with the only exception being a defeat to runaway leaders Kelty Hearts. Annan have picked up four wins out of four against Elgin this season – it’s the second time they have completed a clean sweep against City; they also achieved this in 2013/14.
