20 – Kilmarnock defeated Partick Thistle 2-1 at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park to extend their lead at the top of the cinch Championship. Kyle Lafferty scored a double for Derek McInnes’ side as they moved four points clear of Arbroath with five matches remaining. Lafferty took his tally to 20 goals in 23 appearances across his two spells with the Ayrshire club. Killie have recorded four consecutive league wins for the first time since September-October 2018. Saturday’s victory maintained Kilmarnock’s strong record against Thistle – they have lost just one of their last 10 matches against the Jags.
4 – Hamilton Academical all but secured safety in the cinch Championship thanks to a 1-0 victory over Queen of the South at New Douglas Park. Andy Winter scored the only goal of the game to help Stuart Taylor’s side move up to sixth in the table, nine points clear of the play-off spot with just five games to go. Accies won all four of their matches against the Doonhamers this season – this is the first time they have completed a clean sweep against an opponent in a league season since they defeated Morton four times on the way to the 2007/08 First Division title. Hamilton are unbeaten in their last 11 league matches against Queens – they’ve picked up 10 wins and a draw since their last defeat in September 2011.
1 – Cove Rangers retained their five-point lead at the top of cinch League 1 thanks to a dramatic 1-1 draw with title rivals Airdrieonians. Airdrie took the lead in the second minute, but a stunning stoppage-time equaliser from Fraser Fyvie helped Paul Hartley’s men take a huge step closer to the title. Both sides have been relentless for months – the Toonsers are now unbeaten in 21 league matches while the Diamonds have not lost in 15. The head-to-head record might well prove the difference in the title race – Cove have picked up two wins and two draws in the four meetings this season.
2 – Peterhead defeated Falkirk 1-0 at Balmoor to move further clear of the relegation spots in cinch League 1. Jack Brown scored the only goal of the game to take Jim McInally’s side four points clear of Dumbarton, who currently occupy the relegation play-off berth. Saturday’s clash was the 10th league meeting of these two sides and was just the second time the Blue Toon have beaten Falkirk in the league – the other was also a 1-0 win at Balmoor, in April last year. It was just a second league win of 2022 for Peterhead – their only other success this year came against Dumbarton in late February.
1 – Kelty Hearts became the first SPFL league champions of 2021/22, securing the cinch League 2 title with a 1-0 victory over Stenhousemuir at New Central Park. A late goal from Ukrainian teenager Max Kucheriavyi sealed the three points which move Kevin Thomson’s side 16 points clear of Annan Athletic – who lost to Albion Rovers – with five games remaining. The Fife club marked their debut season in the SPFL in style and became the second club in the last three years to win League 2 immediately after being promoted via the pyramid play-off. Kelty remain unbeaten at home in the league this season – they have picked up 13 wins and three draws in 16 games at New Central Park.
