5 – Dundee United defeated Motherwell 1-0 at Tannadice in the cinch Premiership to move a step closer to European football. Manchester United loanee Dylan Levitt scored the only goal of the game to hand Tam Courts’ side three crucial points. A top-five finish will guarantee a spot in the UEFA Conference League, and United sit in 4th place, three points clear of Ross County and four ahead of Motherwell with just three games remaining. The Terrors are unbeaten in five home matches against the Steelmen since returning to the top flight in 2020 – a run which includes three victories this season.
8 - St Mirren took a massive leap towards cinch Premiership safety with a 1-0 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Greg Kiltie’s goal moved the Paisley Saints eight points clear of the 11th-placed Perth Saints with just three games remaining. St Mirren are unbeaten against St Johnstone this season – they have picked up two wins and two draws in their four cinch Premiership meetings. It is just the second victory Stephen Robinson has picked up since taking over in Paisley, but crucially those two wins have come against the bottom two sides in the division.
3 – Ayr United defeated Partick Thistle 3-1 at Somerset Park to secure their safety in the cinch Championship. Two penalties from Aaron Muirhead and a goal from Tomi Adeloye ensured that Lee Bullen’s side finished in 8th place, and consigned Dunfermline Athletic to the play-offs. The Honest Men had lost each of their previous three matches against the Jags this season without even scoring a goal, but picked up a crucial win when it mattered. Ayr will now compete in the cinch Championship for a fifth consecutive season – prior to this run they had only spent four of the previous 15 seasons in the second tier.
4 – Alloa Athletic finished the 2021/22 cinch League 1 campaign on a high with a 4-1 victory over Montrose at the Indodrill Stadium. Brian Rice’s side won five of their last seven matches, but still finished six points short of the play-offs. The Wasps are unbeaten in their last 17 league matches against the Gable Endies – their last defeat was back in March 1995. Heart of Midlothian loanee Euan Henderson was the Alloa hero on Saturday, scoring all four of his side’s goals to take his tally for the season to 17. Henderson is the first player to score four goals in a game for the Wasps since Stevie May in an 8-1 win over Elgin City back in April 2012.
5 – Stirling Albion thumped Edinburgh City 5-0 at Forthbank to finish their cinch League 2 campaign in style. An 11-minute hat-trick from Dale Carrick and goals from Kyle Banner and Jack Leitch secured the win against a City side who perhaps had one eye on their upcoming play-off campaign. The five-goal margin made it the Binos’ biggest home win since they defeated Montrose 7-0 in February 2016. Carrick’s treble was the first of his senior career – he finished the campaign as Stirling’s top scorer with 11 goals.
