William Hill Premiership

Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

5 – Motherwell defeated Aberdeen 3-2 at Pittodrie in the cinch Premiership to give Stevie Hammell a winning start as permanent manager. Goals from Blair Spittal, Callum Slattery and Kevin van Veen made it two league wins out of three for the Steelmen. Motherwell have won their opening two away league matches for the first time since 2010/11. The Steelmen are now unbeaten in their last five matches against Aberdeen – they have picked up four wins and a draw since the start of last season.

4 – Livingston also made it two wins out of three thanks to a 2-1 victory over Hibernian at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Joel Nouble’s early opener was cancelled out by Nohan Kenneh, but Ayo Obileye’s late winner handed David Martindale’s side all three points. Livi have now recorded four wins in a row against Hibs, all of them by a single goal. This is the Lions’ best ever winning run in this fixture – their previous best was three in a row, which culminated in the 2004 League Cup final success.

7 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 4-1 cinch Championship victory over Cove Rangers at the Caledonian Stadium. A double from Austin Samuels plus goals from Aaron Doran and Nathan Shaw gave Billy Dodds’ side all three points and moved them just a point behind Dundee at the top. The Caley Jags have picked up four wins and three draws in their seven matches in all competitions – this equals a club record for the longest unbeaten start to a season. They also started with seven matches unbeaten in 2009/10, where they went on to win the 1st Division title.

3 – Dunfermline Athletic defeated Montrose 1-0 to continue their 100% start to the cinch League 1 season. A late goal from Nikolay Todorov was enough to hand James McPake’s side their third consecutive league win. This is just the second time this century that the Pars have started a league campaign with three wins out of three – they also did so in 2020/21. Dunfermline have started off this campaign with three straight clean sheets – the last time they achieved this was back in 1995/96.

4 – Dumbarton continued their perfect start to the cinch League 2 season by thumping Annan Athletic 4-0 at the Dumbarton Football Stadium. A Declan Byrne double and goals from Finlay Gray and Gregor Buchanan secured an emphatic victory for Stevie Farrell’s men. This is just the fourth time in the Sons' history that they have won their opening three league fixtures – they had previously done so in 1907/08, 1911/12 and most recently in 1959/60.
