3 – St Mirren made it back-to-back victories in the cinch Premiership courtesy of an impressive 3-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice. Curtis Main’s double and a goal from Alex Grieve made it back-to-back victories for Stephen Robinson’s side. This was St Mirren’s biggest league win since January 2021 – that also came at Tannadice when they defeated United 5-1. Saints have now recorded three straight away wins against the Terrors - the first time in their history that they have done so.
5 – Ross County defeated Kilmarnock 1-0 at the Global Energy Stadium to pick up their first cinch Premiership victory of the season. Owura Edwards’ late winner was enough to give the Staggies all three points and take them off the bottom of the table. County are now unbeaten in their last five matches against Killie in Dingwall – they’ve picked up three wins and two draws since their last defeat back in March 2017.
1 – Ayr United climbed to the top of the cinch Championship thanks to a 2-1 win over Cove Rangers at Balmoral Stadium. Ben Dempsey’s penalty and another goal from Dipo Akinyemi handed Lee Bullen’s side a victory in their first ever competitive meeting with Cove. The Honest Men have won both of their opening away league matches for the first time since their 2017/18 League 1 winning campaign – the last time they did so in the second tier was way back in 1991/92.
4 – Queen of the South thumped Peterhead 4-1 at Balmoor to pick up their first win of the cinch League 1 season. A double from Connor Murray plus goals from Josh Todd and Ruari Paton handed Queens their biggest away league win since they beat Falkirk 3-0 in August 2018. The Doonhamers made it four wins out of four in competitive meetings with the Blue Toon - this was the first ever league meeting between the clubs, but Queens had previously picked up two wins in the Challenge Cup and one in the Scottish Cup. Curiously, all four of those matches were at Balmoor, but the sides will finally get to face each other in Dumfries in October.
4 – Dumbarton defeated Stenhousemuir 3-1 at Ochilview to continue their winning start to the cinch League 2 season. Goals from Martin McNiff and Finlay Gray plus a Thomas Orr own goal were enough for a fourth straight league win to start the season – Celtic are the only other SPFL club with a 100% record in the league. This is the first time in over a decade that the Sons have recorded four straight victories – the last time they did so was back in April and May 2012, when they won their final three league matches and then defeated Arbroath in the first leg of the Division 1 play-off semi-finals on their way to promotion.
