9 – Celtic thrashed Dundee United 9-0 at Tannadice on Sunday to maintain their 100% start to the cinch Premiership season. Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada both netted hat-tricks – the first time two players have scored trebles in the same top-flight match since Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes did so when the Hoops beat Aberdeen 9-0 at Celtic Park in November 2010. This was the biggest away win in Celtic’s history – they had previously scored nine goals away from home on two occasions – 9-1 wins over Clyde in 1897 and Arbroath in 1993. It was just the seventh time a side have scored nine or more away goals in a top-flight fixture – the last one was back in December 1959, when Hibernian beat Partick Thistle 10-2 at Firhill. Hibs also hold the record for the largest ever away win in top-flight history, when they defeated Airdrie 11-1 just a few weeks earlier, in October 1959.
5 – Aberdeen made it three wins from four by thumping Livingston 5-0 at Pittodrie in the cinch Premiership. Bojan Miovski grabbed a double, with the other goals scored Ross McCrorie, Vicente Besuijen and a first Dons goal for teenager Ryan Duncan. It was the club’s biggest league win since May 2017, when they defeated Partick Thistle 6-0 at Firhill. Jim Goodwin’s side have won seven of their opening nine matches in all competitions, and this was their sixth clean sheet of the season – they only managed seven in the whole of the 2021/22 campaign.
1 – Greenock Morton defeated Inverness CT 1-0 at the Caledonian Stadium to climb to fourth in the cinch Championship table. Grant Gillespie’s late penalty handed Dougie Imrie’s side their first away win of the season, and made it two wins, two draws and a defeat from their opening five league matches. Morton have picked up three wins and a draw on their last five visits to Inverness, and all three of those wins have been by a 1-0 scoreline. Each of Morton’s last seven league wins have been by a single goal and five of those have been 1-0 victories.
5 – Alloa Athletic thumped Peterhead 5-0 at the Indodrill Stadium to pick up their second win of the cinch League 1 campaign. A Conor Sammon double and goals from George Stanger, Bradley Rodden and Luke Rankin made it a comfortable afternoon for Brian Rice’s side. It was Alloa’s biggest league victory in over five years – the last time they won by a five-goal margin in the league was in April 2017, when they beat Brechin City 6-1.
5 – Dumbarton continued their 100% start to the cinch League 2 season by beating Elgin City 2-1. The Sons trailed at half-time, but two second-half penalties from Ally Love made it five wins out of five in the league for Stevie Farrell’s side. This is the first time in their history that Dumbarton have won their opening five league matches – they had never previously managed more than four wins to kick off a season. The Sons are the first side to win their opening five matches in this division since Forfar Athletic in 2016/17 – the Loons went on to win their first seven (a joint league record), before ultimately finishing second and gaining promotion via the play-offs.
