4 – Celtic defeated Rangers 4-0 at Celtic Park to move five points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership. A double from Liel Abada plus goals from Jota and David Turnbull ensured that Ange Postecoglou’s side made it six wins out of six in the league. This was just the 11th time in the club’s history that Celtic have beaten Rangers by four or more goals in a league match, but four of these have come in the last six years. The Hoops have scored 25 goals in their opening six league matches, which is the best goalscoring start to a league campaign in the club’s history – their previous best was 23, most recently set in 2016/17. However, they are still four goals short of the all-time top flight record of 29, which was set by Heart of Midlothian in 1957/58.
3 – St Johnstone picked up their second win of the cinch Premiership season by defeating St Mirren 3-0 at McDiarmid Park. Nicky Clark scored on his debut before goals from Drey Wright and Graham Carey secured a comprehensive victory. This was Saints’ biggest league win at McDiarmid Park in almost four years, since they defeated Hamilton Academical 4-0 in November 2018. The Perth Saints continued their impressive home form against their Paisley equivalents – in their last nine meetings at McDiarmid Park, St Johnstone have picked up six wins and two draws and St Mirren have only managed a single goal.
22 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated Raith Rovers 2-0 at Stark’s Park to climb back into the top half of the cinch Championship. Scott Allardice netted a penalty on the hour mark before Billy Mckay sealed the victory in stoppage time to end a run of three straight defeats. Incredibly, the Caley Jags are now unbeaten in their last 22 league matches against Rovers, with Raith’s last victory coming in October 2000. Excluding Celtic and Rangers, there is only one fixture with a longer active league unbeaten run – Dundee are undefeated in 25 league games against Stirling Albion going back to the 1970s.
6 – FC Edinburgh continued their impressive start to life in cinch League 1 by thumping Airdrieonians 6-0 at the Excelsior Stadium. John Robertson and debutant James Craigen scored doubles, with Danny Handling and Ryan Shanley getting the other goals for Alan Maybury’s side. The Citizens remain unbeaten against Airdrie in all competitions – this was their fourth meeting and they have earned three wins and a draw. This was FC Edinburgh’s biggest win as an SPFL club – the last time they scored six or more goals in a competitive fixture was back in October 2015 when they won 8-2 away to Preston Athletic in the Lowland League.
11 – Stenhousemuir defeated Stranraer 3-1 at Ochilview to climb to fourth place in the cinch League 2 table. Will Sewell, Nicky Jamieson and Sean Crighton all netted in the first half to make it back-to-back victories for the Warriors. Saturday’s success ended Stenhousemuir’s run of 11 matches against Stranraer without a win – their previous victory was back in January 2017.
