15 – St Mirren climbed to fourth place in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-0 victory over Celtic at the SMISA Stadium. Goals from Mark O’Hara and Jonah Ayunga gave Stephen Robinson’s side their fourth win in five matches and ended the Hoops’ 38-match unbeaten league run. This was Celtic’s first domestic defeat by a margin of more than one goal since Ange Postecoglou took over in the summer of 2021. Saints had previously gone 15 home matches without a win over Celtic, a run stretching back more than a decade – their last win over Celtic in Paisley was their famous 4-0 victory in March 2010.
3 – Heart of Midlothian defeated Motherwell 3-0 at Fir Park to climb back to third in the cinch Premiership table. An early goal from Lawrence Shankland and a double from Alan Forrest gave Robbie Neilson’s side a second straight away win following their Europa Conference League victory in Riga. Hearts had lost their previous four Premiership matches at Fir Park – their last league win at the venue was in September 2018. This was the Jam Tarts’ biggest away win in the top flight in almost four years, since they defeated Dundee by the same scoreline at Dens Park in October 2018.
1 – Queen’s Park moved to within a point of cinch Championship leaders Partick Thistle thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park. Simon Murray and Grant Savoury were on the scoresheet for Owen Coyle’s side, who now sit in third place in the table. Queen’s Park have won four of their last five matches, the only exception being a loss away to Dundee. This was the first league meeting of the teams in 40 years, since the sides were together in the 1982/83 SFL Division 1. The Spiders had not beaten Accies in Hamilton in the league in over half a century – their last success was a 1-0 win at Douglas Park in October 1971.
5 – Airdrieonians thumped Clyde 5-0 at the Excelsior Stadium to close the gap at the top of cinch League 1 to just a single point. A double from Callum Smith and goals from Lewis Jamieson, Gabby McGill and Salim Kouider-Aissa helped Rhys McCabe’s side bounce back from their 6-0 defeat to FC Edinburgh last time out. It is incredibly rare for any team to lose a league game by five or more goals before going on to win their next one by five or more – the last time was 44 years ago. On that occasion, Berwick Rangers kicked off the 1971/72 season by losing 6-0 to Falkirk then defeated Stenhousemuir 6-1 the following weekend. This is the third time in less than two years that the Diamonds have beaten Clyde 5-0 – they also did so in November 2020 and April 2022.
7 – Dumbarton continued their perfect start to the cinch League 2 season by beating Bonnyrigg Rose 1-0. A Stuart Carswell penalty was enough to hand Stevie Farrell’s side a seventh consecutive league win and see them move an incredible 10 points clear at the top of the table. The Sons are just the fourth team to win their opening seven matches in a SFL Division 3/SPFL League 2 season, following Livingston in 1995/96, Berwick Rangers in 2005/06 and Forfar Athletic in 2016/17. Perhaps slightly worryingly for Dumbarton, only Livingston would actually go on to win the league that season. The Sons travel to Stranraer tonight – a victory would see them become the first ever side to win their opening eight games of a fourth tier season.
