Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

6 – St Johnstone defeated Dundee United 2-1 at Tannadice to climb to eighth in the cinch Premiership table. Callum Davidson’s side made it two wins and a draw in their last three matches thanks to goals from Stevie May and Melker Hallberg. Saints are now unbeaten on their last six visits to Tannadice – their last defeat was back in September 2014. Since then, they have picked up four wins and two draws. Their only longer unbeaten run away to United came between 1924 and 1947 when they went nine games without a defeat.

4 – Rangers kept up the pressure on Celtic at the top of the cinch Premiership by defeating Heart of Midlothian 4-0 at Tynecastle. The Gers picked up their first away league win since the opening day of the season thanks to a double from Antonio Colak and goals from Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent. Colak has now scored eight goals in eight cinch Premiership matches – he is the first player to do so for the Light Blues in the top flight since Michael Mols in 1999. This was Rangers’ biggest win at Tynecastle since February 2008, when Jean-Claude Darcheville and Nacho Novo scored doubles in another 4-0 success.

5 – Partick Thistle remain top of the cinch Championship after thumping Greenock Morton 5-1 at Firhill on Saturday. Brian Graham, Kevin Holt, Aaron Muirhead, Scott Tiffoney and Anton Dowds were all on the scoresheet for the Jags as they picked up their biggest win since last November. The last time five or more different players scored in the same game for Thistle was back in March 2013, when they actually had six goalscorers in a 6-1 win over Livingston. Aaron Muirhead was also amongst the scorers that day, along with Steven Craig, James Craigen, Steven Lawless, Chris Erskine and Kris Doolan.

2 – FC Edinburgh defeated Montrose 2-1 at Links Park to climb to second place in cinch League 1. An early goal from Ouzy See set them on their way, and Danny Handling’s late winner moved the Citizens to within a point of leaders Dunfermline Athletic. Edinburgh have the best away record in the entire SPFL – they have four wins and a defeat from their five matches on the road and have picked up 12 of their 15 points away from Meadowbank. Their tally of 15 away league goals is 10 more than any other club in cinch League 1 have managed.

4 – Elgin City continued their recent run of good form by thrashing Annan Athletic 5-1 at Borough Briggs in cinch League 2. Kane Hester scored four times, with Dylan Lawrence adding the other goal as Gavin Price’s side made it three wins and a draw in their last four matches. Hester is just the second Elgin player to score four goals in a league game since they joined the SFL in 2000 – the other was Craig Gunn in a 4-1 win over Berwick Rangers in 2011. The only other player to net four goals in that period was Shane Sutherland, who scored four times in an 8-1 win over Hawick Royal Albert in the Scottish Cup in 2016.
