7 – Cove Rangers thumped Dunipace 7-0 at Balmoral Stadium to make it into Round 4 of the Scottish Cup. Gerry McDonagh scored the first four goals before Leighton McIntosh, Fraser Fyvie and Jamie Masson rounded off a comprehensive win over the East of Scotland League side. McDonagh is the first Cove player to score four in a match since Jordon Brown and Mitch Megginson both managed it in an 11-0 win over Fort William in the Highland League in September 2018. This was Cove’s biggest win in the Scottish Cup since they beat another East of Scotland League side, Hawick Royal Albert, 9-0 in September 2014.
3 – Raith Rovers progressed to Round 4 of the Scottish Cup thanks to a 3-0 victory over West of Scotland League side Auchinleck Talbot at Stark’s Park. Aidan Connolly was Rovers’ hero, netting all three goals to ensure that Ian Murray’s side avoided a potential upset. Rovers have now won each of their last nine Scottish Cup ties against non-league opposition – their last defeat was back in 1964/65. It was Connolly’s first career hat-trick – he has now scored eight times in his last five matches for Rovers, taking his tally for the season to 12. He is the first Raith player to score a treble in the Scottish Cup since Lewis Vaughan scored three against Dunfermline Athletic in 2018/19.
24 – Falkirk cruised through to Round 4 of the Scottish Cup by beating Wick Academy 6-0 at Harmsworth Park. Rumarn Burrell, Craig McGuffie, Gary Oliver (2), Coll Donaldson and Brad McKay were all on the scoresheet for John McGlynn’s side. This was the first time the Bairns scored six or more goals away from home since they beat East Stirlingshire 7-1 in the Challenge Cup in July 2014. The last time they scored six or more away from home in the Scottish Cup was way back in 1955, when they won 7-0 over another Highland League side, Inverness Caledonian. Incredibly, the Bairns have now won each of their last 24 Scottish Cup ties against non-league opposition – their last defeat came over a century ago against Alloa Athletic, who were at that time playing in the Central League.
5 – Dunfermline Athletic swept aside Forfar Athletic 4-0 at East End Park to make it into Round 4 of the Scottish Cup. Craig Wighton scored a double and goals from Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Josh Edwards secured a comfortable win for James McPake’s side, who now have five wins and a draw in their last six matches. The Pars have made it through on all five occasions that they’ve faced Forfar in the Scottish Cup – the first success was back in 1949/50, and since then they’ve knocked them out in 1961/62, 1983/84, 1991/92 and now 2022/23.
15 – Dumbarton defeated Clyde 3-1 at New Douglas Park to seal their place in the hat for Round 4 of the Scottish Cup. David Wilson, Ryan Wallace and Ross MacLean scored the goals as Stevie Farrell’s League 2 leaders upset their League 1 opponents. It was the first time in 15 years that Dumbarton have recorded a Scottish Cup win over a side in a higher division – the last time they did so was a 2-0 victory over Berwick Rangers in November 2007. It is a third consecutive away win for Dumbarton over Clyde, and they have scored three goals in each of them.
