6 – Dundee cruised into the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-finals thanks to a 3-0 victory over Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium. Two goals from Zak Rudden and one from Finlay Robertson handed Gary Bowyer’s side a second cup win over the Bairns this season – they beat them by the same scoreline in the Premier Sports Cup in August. This was Dundee’s first ever win at the Falkirk Stadium – their last away win over the Bairns came at Brockville in January 2002, when Fan Zhiyi scored the only goal of a Scottish Cup replay. Dundee have now won six consecutive matches in all competitions – they haven’t won seven in a row since 1974.
5 – Queen’s Park defeated Montrose 2-0 at Hampden to seal their place in the quarter-final of the SPFL Trust Trophy. Dom Thomas and Josh McPake scored the goals to take their side into the last eight of this competition for just the third time in the last 20 years. The Spiders failed to win any of their four league meetings with the Gable Endies in last season’s cinch League 1 but made up for that on Saturday. Owen Coyle’s side have now recorded five consecutive wins in all competitions, their best run since they won eight in a row at the tail end of their League 2 winning campaign in 2020/21.
5 – Dunfermline Athletic thumped Arbroath 5-1 at Gayfield to secure their spot in the last eight of the SPFL Trust Trophy. Kyle MacDonald, Matthew Todd (2), Kyle Benedictus and Craig Wighton were all on the scoresheet to hand the cinch League 1 side a victory over their cinch Championship opponents. It was Dunfermline’s biggest ever competitive victory over a side in a higher division, and the first time they scored five or more away from home since they beat Brechin City 7-1 in the League Cup in July 2018. James McPake’s men are now unbeaten in eight matches and have lost just one of their last 20 in all competitions.
1 – Kelty Hearts reached the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-finals by defeating Northern Irish champions Linfield on penalties following a 1-1 draw at New Central Park. Nathan Austin scored the decisive penalty in the shoot-out to take the cinch League 1 side through to the quarter-finals of this competition for the first time. Kelty had suffered penalty heartache in their only previous Challenge Cup meeting with non-Scottish opposition – they lost a shoot-out to English side Solihull Moors in Round 3 in 2019/20 – but made no mistake with their second big chance from the spot this time around.
2 – Forfar Athletic defeated Stenhousemuir 2-1 at Ochilview to climb off the bottom of cinch League 2. Goals from Stefan McCluskey and Ben Armour handed Ray McKinnon’s side their second consecutive victory and moved them two points clear of Albion Rovers and Bonnyrigg Rose at the foot of the table. The Loons recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time in 2022, and extended their unbeaten league run to four matches. The victory ended a run of five matches without a win against Stenhousemuir – they failed to beat them last season and also lost their opening meeting of this campaign back in August.
