Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

3 - Heart of Midlothian defeated Hibernian 3-0 at Easter Road to make it into the 5th Round of the Scottish Cup. Goals from Josh Ginnelly, Lawrence Shankland and Toby Sibbick made it nine matches unbeaten for the Jam Tarts in all competitions. This was Robbie Neilson’s first Edinburgh derby success at Easter Road as player or manager – in 14 previous visits with him involved, Hearts had drawn eight and lost six. The Jam Tarts are now unbeaten in nine matches against Hibs in all competitions – their last defeat was on Boxing Day 2019. Shankland has now moved on to 20 goals for the season in all competitions – he is the first Hearts player to reach that landmark since John Robertson in 1991/92.

5 - Motherwell progressed to the 5th Round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Arbroath at Gayfield. A double from Mikael Mandron was enough to see Stevie Hammell's side overcome their cinch Championship opponents. This was the first meeting of the sides in 23 years - the last time they faced each other was also in the Scottish Cup, with the Steelmen winning 2-0 in a replay at Fir Park thanks to goals from Don Goodman and Lee McCulloch. Motherwell have now been drawn against Arbroath five times in the Scottish Cup and have progressed each time.

3 - Hamilton Academical progressed to the 5th Round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory over Ross County. The match finished goalless after 120 minutes, but Accies scored all five of their penalties to eliminate their cinch Premiership opponents. This is the first time in 21 years that Hamilton have beaten a side in a higher division in the Scottish Cup - that was a 1-0 win over Raith Rovers in 2002, when Accies were in the third tier and Rovers in the second. Hamilton now have three wins out of three in Scottish Cup shoot-outs - they also beat East Fife in 2002/03 and Dunfermline Athletic in 2016/17.

1 - Peterhead climbed off the foot of the cinch League 1 table thanks to a 1-0 victory over relegation rivals Clyde at Balmoor. Kieran Shanks scored the only goal of the game to hand the Blue Toon just their second victory of the season in all competitions. Peterhead ended a run of 16 matches without a win in all competitions - their last success came against Kelty Hearts back in September. Peterhead are unbeaten in seven matches against Clyde - they have picked up four wins and three draws since their last defeat in March 2021.

15 - Annan Athletic thumped Bonnyrigg Rose 4-0 at Galabank to move into the top four in cinch League 2. A Tommy Goss double and goals from Aidan Smith and Max Kilsby helped Peter Murphy's side climb above both East Fife and Forfar Athletic into the final play-off spot. Goss moved on to 15 league goals for the season, pulling him level with Kane Hester at the top of the division's goalscoring charts - only Kyogo Furuhashi and Lawrence Shankland have scored more goals across the entire SPFL.
