Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

2 – Motherwell beat Heart of Midlothian 2-0 at Fir Park to move further clear of the relegation zone in the cinch Premiership. Jon Obika and Blair Spittal scored the goals for the Steelmen to make it back-to-back victories for Stuart Kettlewell as caretaker manager. Motherwell have won four of their last five home matches against Hearts at Fir Park, the only exception being a 3-0 defeat earlier this season. It’s the first time ‘Well have won two consecutive league matches at home since December 2021.

7 – St Johnstone boosted their hopes of a top-six finish in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Tannadice. Stevie May’s double secured all three points for Callum Davidson’s side, who are now just five points behind sixth-placed Livingston. Saints have won back-to-back away league matches for the first time since February 2021. St Johnstone are unbeaten in their last seven visits to Tannadice – they have picked up five wins and two draws since their last defeat back in September 2014.

6 – Greenock Morton defeated Dundee 1-0 at Cappielow on Friday night to close the gap at the top of the cinch Championship table. Jack Baird’s early goal was enough to move Dougie Imrie’s side to within seven points of leaders Queen’s Park, with a game in hand. The Ton are unbeaten in their last six matches against Dundee at Cappielow – they have won three and drawn three since their last defeat back in December 2013. Morton have won 10 league matches this season, and eight of them have been by a single-goal margin.

1 – Clyde secured a 1-0 victory over Peterhead at New Douglas Park to boost their cinch League 1 survival chances. Cameron Salkeld scored the only goal as Jim Duffy’s side moved three points clear of the Blue Toon at the foot of the table, with a vastly superior goal difference. It was the Bully Wee’s first league win since August – they started the season with seven points from their opening three matches, but had gone 21 matches without a win, just one short of equalling the club record set in 1902. The win ended a run of seven matches without a victory against Peterhead – they hadn’t beaten the Blue Toon since March 2021.

2 – East Fife climbed into the final promotion play-off spot in cinch League 2 courtesy of a 2-0 victory over league leaders Dumbarton at Bayview. Aaron Steele and Alex Ferguson found the net for Greig McDonald’s side as they leapfrogged Forfar Athletic into fourth place. The Fifers have won six of their last seven home matches against Dumbarton, the only exception being a 1-0 defeat back in September. It is the first time East Fife have won a home league match by a margin of more than one goal since March 2022 – that was also a 2-0 victory over Dumbarton.
