Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

21 - Celtic defeated Rangers 2-1 at Hampden to win the League Cup – the first under the Viaplay banner – for the second consecutive season, and the sixth time in seven years. Kyogo Furuhashi scored both goals, just as he did in last season's final, to hand the Hoops the League Cup trophy for the 21st time in their history. Celtic have won each of their last seven finals in this competition - their last defeat came against Kilmarnock back in 2012. Ange Postecoglou's side have now lost just one of their last seven matches against Rangers, including two wins and a draw so far this season.

4 - Ross County climbed out of the bottom two of the cinch Premiership courtesy of a 4-0 victory over Dundee United at the Global Energy Stadium. A double from Eamonn Brophy plus goals from Yan Dhanda and Jordan White ensured the Staggies picked up all three points to move into 10th place, ahead of Kilmarnock on goal difference. The win ended Ross County's run of six matches without a win against United, with their last success coming back in May 2021. It equalled County's record home top-flight victory - they had two previous wins by the same scoreline, against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in April 2017 and Partick Thistle in April 2018.

4 - Queen's Park defeated Hamilton Academical 4-1 at New Douglas Park to move four points clear at the top of the cinch Championship. Jack Thomson and Aaron Healy scored the first two goals for the Spiders before a Connor Shields double rounded off a comfortable victory in Lanarkshire. Owen Coyle's side have scored 30 goals in their 14 away league matches this season, with Saturday's win being the fifth time they've scored four or more goals on the road. Queen's Park have won all three league matches against Accies so far this season - it's the first time they've beaten them three times in a row since January 1971-January 1972.

20 - Alloa Athletic climbed back into the play-off places in cinch League 1 thanks to a 1-0 win over Montrose at the Indodrill Stadium. Adam King scored the only goal as Brian Rice's side leapfrogged Airdrie into fourth place with 10 matches remaining. The Wasps are now unbeaten in their last 20 league matches against the Gable Endies, a run which includes 15 wins and five draws. Montrose's last league victory against Alloa came way back in March 1995, when Colin McGlashan scored in a 1-0 victory in Clackmannanshire.

7 - Stenhousemuir beat Bonnyrigg Rose 1-0 at New Dundas Park to move up to fourth place in cinch League 2. Matty Yates' goal was enough to give the Warriors all three points against 10-man Rose and help them into the final promotion play-off spot. Stenhousemuir are unbeaten in seven league matches since Gary Naysmith took over, picking up four wins and three draws - this is their best unbeaten run in the league since August-September 2017.
