Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

13 – Celtic defeated Heart of Midlothian 3-0 at Tynecastle to book their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals. Aaron Mooy, Kyogo Furuhashi and Cameron Carter-Vickers all scored to hand Ange Postecoglou’s side their second win over Hearts in the space of four days. The Hoops have now won 10 of their last 11 Scottish Cup matches against Hearts, with the only exception being the 2011/12 semi-final at Hampden. Celtic have now won 13 consecutive matches in all competitions, which is their best run since 2016/17.

0 – Rangers secured their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals thanks to a 3-0 victory over Raith Rovers at Ibrox on Sunday. Connor Goldson and Scott Arfield were on the scoresheet, either side of a Ryan Nolan own goal, as the Scottish Cup holders made it eight straight wins in the competition. Michael Beale’s side have won 12 of their last 13 matches, with the only exception being the Viaplay Cup final defeat to Celtic. Rangers maintained their record of never losing a Scottish Cup tie at home to a side in a lower division – this was their 69th match against a lower-ranked opponent at Ibrox.

14 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated Kilmarnock 2-1 at the Caledonian Stadium on Friday night to reach their first Scottish Cup semi-final since 2018/19. Billy Mckay and Sean Welsh were the goalscorers as Billy Dodds’ side came from behind to knock out their cinch Premiership opponents. The Caley Jags are now unbeaten in their last 14 home matches against Killie, a run which stretches back to August 2011. This is the first time Inverness have beaten two top-flight clubs in the same season in the Scottish Cup since they won it in 2014/15.

6 – Airdrieonians boosted their promotion chances in cinch League 1 by thumping Kelty Hearts 6-1 at the Excelsior Stadium. A hat-trick from Gabby McGill, goals from Calum Gallagher and Callum Smith, and a Jack Milne own goal kept Rhys McCabe’s side in fifth place, two points behind Alloa Athletic in the final play-off spot. McGill’s hat-trick was the first of his career – he was the first Diamonds player to score one since Lewis Jamieson in a 4-0 win over Montrose back in October. Airdrie are now the division’s top goalscorers, with 58 goals but they have conceded 43 times, meaning their 28 league matches have featured over 100 goals.

9 – Stirling Albion left it late to defeat Bonnyrigg Rose 2-1 at Forthbank and move to within just two points of the summit in cinch League 2, setting up a huge game at leaders Dumbarton on Tuesday. Darren Young’s side trailed at half-time, but Flynn Duffy equalised just before the hour mark and Jack Leitch scored a crucial stoppage-time winner. This was Stirling’s third consecutive 2-1 win over Bonnyrigg, having also beaten them by that scoreline in October and February. The Binos are unbeaten in nine league matches for the first time since April-August 2010, a run which helped them secure the third tier title under Allan Moore.
