12 – Celtic defeated Rangers 3-2 at Celtic Park to move 12 points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership table. Two goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and another from Jota secured the victory for Ange Postecoglou’s side to take them to within touching distance of a second consecutive league title. Kyogo took his tally to 22 league goals for the season – the last Celtic player to score more than this in a league season was Leigh Griffiths, who netted 31 times in 2015/16. The Hoops are now unbeaten in their last six league matches against Rangers – they have picked up four wins and two draws since their last defeat back in August 2021. Celtic have won all 16 of their home league matches this season, and are now unbeaten in their last 41 home league matches, a run which stretches back to January 2021, when they were beaten by St Mirren.
2 – St Mirren moved a step closer to a cinch Premiership top-six finish thanks to a 2-0 victory over Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle. Curtis Main and Alex Gogic scored the goals for Saints as Stephen Robinson’s side moved five points clear of seventh-placed Livingston with two matches remaining until the split. It was Saints’ first win over Hearts in Edinburgh in almost a decade – their last success came back in October 2013, when John McGinn and Paul McGowan were on the scoresheet in a 2-0 victory. St Mirren have not achieved a top-half finish in the top flight since 1984/85, when Alex Miller led them to fifth place.
4 – Partick Thistle thumped Queen’s Park 4-0 at Firhill to keep alive their hopes of winning the cinch Championship. A Kevin Holt double and goals from Kyle Turner and Danny Mullen helped Thistle move up to third place, three points behind the Spiders and Dundee at the summit, though the Dee have a game in hand in midweek. The Jags have lost just once in nine matches since Kris Doolan took over back in February – this includes wins over each of the other sides in the top four. The win represents an eight-goal swing from the previous meeting in Maryhill in October, when Queen’s Park won by the same 4-0 scoreline – indeed the Spiders had won each of the three previous league meetings this season.
1 – Peterhead boosted their survival chances in cinch League 1 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Edinburgh at Balmoor. Josh Oyinsan scored the only goal of the game to hand the Blue Toon just their third victory of the season in all competitions and move them to within two points of ninth-placed Clyde, who they face at home in a fortnight. Incredibly, each of Peterhead’s victories this season has come under different management – Jim McInally led them to a win over Kelty Hearts in September, David Robertson was in charge when Clyde were beaten in January, and caretakers Jordon Brown and Ryan Strachan secured Saturday’s success.
3 – Albion Rovers defeated Elgin City 3-0 at the Reigart Stadium to climb off the foot of the cinch League 2 table at the expense of their opponents. Top scorer Charlie Reilly opened the scoring to take his league tally for the season to 21, before Joe Bevan rounded off the win with a double. Sandy Clark’s side are now ahead of Elgin on goal difference at the foot of the table, with Bonnyrigg Rose two points ahead in eighth. Rovers continued their very curious form in 2023 – in 14 matches this year, they have won five, drawn one and lost eight, but all five of their victories have been by a margin of three or more goals. Crucially for the relegation battle, those results included two 3-0 wins at home to Elgin and a 1-1 draw at Borough Briggs.
