Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

1 – Hibernian defeated Heart of Midlothian 1-0 at Easter Road to put themselves in pole position for a top-six spot in the cinch Premiership. Kevin Nisbet scored the only goal of the game to keep Lee Johnson’s side a point clear of Livingston heading into the final round of pre-split fixtures next weekend. It ended a run of nine Edinburgh derbies without a win for the Hibees – their last success was on Boxing Day 2019 when Martin Boyle scored a double at Tynecastle. Hibs’ last home win against Hearts was back in March 2018 – since then they had gone seven derbies without a win in Leith.

6 – Aberdeen extended their lead in third place in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 1-0 win over Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium on Friday night. Duk’s 16th league goal of the season moved Barry Robson’s side five points clear of Heart of Midlothian. The Dons have now recorded six consecutive league wins, their best run since May-August 2017. Aberdeen haven’t conceded a single goal in their last four matches – the last time they had four straight clean sheets in the league was in March-April 2017.

5 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle picked up a 2-1 victory over Cove Rangers at Balmoral Stadium to continue their late charge towards the cinch Championship top four. Billy Dodds’ side came from behind thanks to goals from Billy Mckay and Cameron Harper to move level on points with fourth-placed Ayr United, and just one behind Partick Thistle in third. The Caley Jags have won five consecutive league matches for the second time this season – they also did so in September and October. Inverness have the joint best away record in the division alongside Ayr United – they have picked up eight wins and three draws in their 16 away matches, meaning they have won more than half of their points away from home.

1 – Dunfermline Athletic secured the cinch League 1 championship in style with a 5-0 victory over Queen of the South at East End Park. A Craig Wighton double and goals from Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Matty Todd and Kevin O’Hara ensured that the Pars would make an immediate return to the cinch Championship. It is the seventh league title in the club’s history, and the third time they have won this division, with the most recent coming in 2015/16 under Allan Johnston. James McPake’s side also set a new club record by going 21 league matches unbeaten, breaking the record set by Bert Paton’s side in 1995.

8 – East Fife trounced Stranraer 8-0 at Bayview to climb back into the top four in cinch League 2. A double from Scott Shepherd, goals from Alex Ferguson, Ryan Schiavone, Samuel Denham and Connor Young plus two own goals moved Greig McDonald’s side into fourth place. East Fife now sit a point ahead of Forfar Athletic and three clear of Stenhousemuir with three games remaining, including a final-day clash with the Loons at Station Park. The last time the Fifers scored eight goals in a game was 60 years ago – George Dewar scored six times in an 8-0 win over Alloa Athletic in November 1963.
