Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

12 – Motherwell continued their unbeaten start to the season by defeating Hibernian 2-1 at Fir Park in the cinch Premiership. Goals from Conor Wilkinson and Mika Biereth handed Stuart Kettlewell’s side all three points to make it four out of six to start the season. Including the end of last season, the Steelmen are now unbeaten in 12 matches in all competitions, which is their best run since December 1984-March 1985 when Tommy McLean’s side went on a 14-game unbeaten run on their way to gaining promotion from the second tier. It was Motherwell’s first home win over Hibs since August 2019 – they had gone six without a victory prior to Sunday’s match.

18 – Rangers thumped Livingston 4-0 at Ibrox in the cinch Premiership as they followed up their midweek European win with another victory. Summer signings Sam Lammers, Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Kieran Dowell all scored their first goals for the club to give Michael Beale’s side their first points of the campaign. Rangers are now unbeaten in their last 18 games against Livi in all competitions, with their last loss coming back in September 2018. Livingston have visited Ibrox 22 times but have never won at the stadium.

2 – Queen’s Park defeated Arbroath 2-1 at Lesser Hampden to become the only side to start the cinch Championship season with two wins out of two. Barry Hepburn opened the scoring for Robin Veldman’s side before Ruari Paton scored the winning goal with 15 minutes remaining. This is the first time the Spiders have kicked off a league campaign with back-to-back victories since 2007/08, when they won their first three matches in Division 2. The last time Queen’s Park won their opening two games in the second tier was even further back, in 1970/71.

1 – Stirling Albion continued their perfect start to life in cinch League 1 as they defeated Alloa Athletic 1-0 at the Indodrill Stadium. Dale Carrick’s late penalty was enough to make it six points out of six for Darren Young’s newly-promoted side. The Binos have only lost one of their last 26 matches in all competitions – that came against Albion Rovers on the final day of last season when the cinch League 2 title was already sealed. They have already beaten the Wasps twice this season – prior to that they had suffered nine consecutive defeats against their neighbours.

2 – Bonnyrigg Rose were the only winners in a tight weekend of cinch League 2 action – they defeated Clyde 2-0 at New Douglas Park. Jason Jarvis and Bradley Barrett scored the goals for Robbie Horn’s side to move them level on points with Peterhead and Stranraer at the top of the table. This was the first league meeting of the clubs, although they had previously met in the Scottish Cup and League Cup and had picked up a win apiece. Including the end of last season, Bonnyrigg have lost just one of their last eight away league matches, earning four wins and three draws.
