Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

6 – St Mirren continued their impressive start to the cinch Premiership season with a 1-0 victory over Heart of Midlothian at the SMISA Stadium. Ryan Strain’s early goal was enough to give Stephen Robinson’s side all three points and keep them just two behind leaders Celtic. St Mirren have four wins and two draws so far this season, giving them 14 points from their opening six matches – this is their best start to a top-flight season since 1948/49, when they won five and lost one. Including cup matches, Saints are unbeaten in their last 10 games, picking up eight wins and two draws.

1 – Aberdeen thumped Ross County 4-0 at Pittodrie to pick up their first win of the cinch Premiership season. A double from Bojan Miovski and goals from Duk and Jamie McGrath ended the Dons’ run of six matches without victory in all competitions. Miovski took his tally to four league goals for the season, moving him level with Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley of Celtic at the top of the cinch Premiership goalscoring charts. It was Aberdeen’s biggest win in over a year, since they beat Livingston 5-0 in August 2022.

5 – Arbroath defeated Partick Thistle 3-0 at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill to climb into third spot in the cinch Championship. Two goals from Jermaine Hylton and one from Tam O’Brien gave Dick Campbell’s side their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions. This is the first time the Red Lichties have won five games in a row since October and November 2018 on their way to winning the League 1 title - they haven’t won six in a row since 2001. The victory ended a run of seven games without a win over the Jags – they had drawn three and lost four in that period. It was Arbroath’s biggest ever away win over Thistle – they had never previously beaten them in Glasgow by more than two goals.

5 – Falkirk remain top of cinch League 1 on goal difference after thrashing Kelty Hearts 5-1 at New Central Park. A brace from Callumn Morrison and goals from Liam Henderson, Ross MacIver and Aidan Nesbitt took John McGlynn’s side on to 19 points from their opening seven matches. It’s the first time in over five years the Bairns have scored five goals away from home in a league match – the last one was a 5-2 victory over Dumbarton in April 2018. The Bairns have recorded six consecutive victories in all competitions – they also won six on the spin between December and February, with the sixth win on that occasion also coming against Kelty.

0 – Stenhousemuir moved to the summit of cinch League 2 thanks to a 1-0 win over Bonnyrigg Rose in the top-of-the-table clash at New Dundas Park. Edin Lynch scored just after the hour mark to leave Gary Naysmith’s side a point clear of Peterhead at the summit. The Warriors have yet to concede a goal away from home in cinch League 2 this season – this is the first time in their history they have kept four consecutive away clean sheets in the league. This was the fifth competitive meeting between Stenhousemuir and Rose, and Stenny remain unbeaten – they have picked up three wins and two draws.
