3 – Aberdeen defeated Rangers 3-1 at Ibrox to climb to 7th in the cinch Premiership table. Stefan Gartenmann opened the scoring with his first goal for the club, before Jamie McGrath and Jack MacKenzie rounded off a third consecutive victory for Barry Robson’s side. It ended the Dons’ run of nine games without a win at Ibrox – their last success was a Scottish Cup replay in March 2019, when Derek McInnes was still in charge. Saturday was the first time in over 25 years the Dons had scored three against Rangers at Ibrox – they last did so in a 3-3 draw in September 1997, when Mike Newell, Billy Dodds and John Inglis were on the scoresheet.
29 – Celtic extended their lead over St Mirren at the top of the cinch Premiership table thanks to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park. The match remained level until the 87th minute when Luis Palma gave the Hoops the lead. Blair Spittal then seemed to have rescued a point for the Steelmen in the 95th minute, only for Matt O’Riley to go up the other end and win it for Celtic a minute later. Celtic are now unbeaten in their last 29 matches against Motherwell in all competitions – they have won 25 and drawn four since their last defeat in December 2015.
1 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated Arbroath 3-2 at Gayfield to pick up their first win in the cinch Championship in Duncan Ferguson’s first match in charge. Luis Longstaff, Aaron Doran and Billy Mckay’s goals helped the Caley Jags race into a 3-0 lead, and they held on for all three points despite a late Arbroath fightback. Inverness are now unbeaten in seven league meetings with the Red Lichties – their last defeat was in October 2021. Saturday’s win was Inverness’ first since beating Bonnyrigg Rose in their opening Viaplay Cup group stage match – they had lost nine and drawn one since then.
5 – Hamilton Academical continued their unbeaten start to the cinch League 1 season by thumping Annan Athletic 5-0 at New Douglas Park on Friday night. Jamie Barjonas, Reghan Tumilty, Euan Henderson, Connor Murray and Joe McGlynn all found the net as John Rankin’s side made it seven wins and a draw from their opening eight matches. This was the first time these sides have faced each other in a league fixture – they had previously met four times in cup ties with Annan winning each of the last three. Friday was Hamilton’s biggest league win since they defeated Motherwell 5-0 in the Premiership on New Year’s Day 2015.
6 – Peterhead thrashed Elgin City 6-0 at Balmoor to move to the top of the cinch League 2 table. Scott Ross and Kieran Shanks both scored doubles, and Rory McAllister and Hamish Ritchie were also on the scoresheet as the Blue Toon made it four wins on the bounce in all competitions. Veteran striker McAllister is on the verge of yet another goalscoring landmark – he has now scored 199 goals for Peterhead across his three spells with the club. Elgin were also on the receiving end the last time Peterhead scored six or more goals, that was a 7-0 hammering back in January 2018 – McAllister was also on the scoresheet that day.
