Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

21 – Rangers defeated St Mirren 3-0 at the SMISA Stadium to leapfrog their opponents into second place in the cinch Premiership table. Two goals from James Tavernier and one from Abdallah Sima helped Rangers bounce back from consecutive defeats to Aberdeen and Aris Limassol. The Light Blues are now unbeaten in their last 21 league matches against St Mirren – they have 19 wins and two draws since Saints’ last win on Christmas Eve 2011.

10 – Livingston climbed to sixth in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-0 victory over Motherwell at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Bruce Anderson opened the scoring, and a Sean Kelly penalty secured all three points for David Martindale’s side. Anderson’s goal was his 20th in the Premiership for Livi, making him the club’s highest ever top-flight goalscorer – Scott Pittman previously held the record with 19 goals. The Lions ended a run of 10 matches without a win over the Steelmen – they had drawn four and lost six since a win back in February 2020.

3 – Ayr United defeated Airdrieonians 2-1 at the Excelsior Stadium to move to within three points of the play-off places in the cinch Championship. Logan Chalmers and Anton Dowds scored the goals for Lee Bullen’s side as they picked up their third league win of the season. Chalmers and Dowds are the Honest Men’s joint top league scorers this season with three each. It was the first competitive meeting of the sides in over five years, and it finished with an identical result to the previous match in April 2018. Indeed, Ayr have now won three in a row against the Diamonds and have seven victories in the last 10 meetings.

23 – Stirling Albion defeated Queen of the South 1-0 at Palmerston as they continued their strong start to life in cinch League 1. Jordan McGregor scored the only goal of the game to keep the Binos in fifth place, level on points with Kelty Hearts in the final play-off spot. It was their first league win over the Doonhamers in 23 years – their last success was a 3-2 triumph in Dumfries in January 2000, when John McQuade, Ally Graham and Paul McGrillen were on the scoresheet. In 13 meetings since then, they had lost six and drawn seven, although Saturday’s match was their first encounter since 2011.

4 – Dumbarton thumped Clyde 4-0 at New Douglas Park to climb into second place in cinch League 2. Ryan Wallace, Tony Wallace, Michael Ruth and James Hilton all found the net for Stevie Farrell’s side as they kept themselves two points behind league leaders Peterhead. It was the Sons’ biggest win in almost a year, since they defeated Elgin City by the same scoreline in November 2022. Dumbarton are now unbeaten in their last six meetings with Clyde in all competitions, winning five and drawing one.
