Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

10 – Aberdeen defeated Hibernian 1-0 at Hampden to secure their place in the Viaplay Cup final for the first time since 2018/19. The Dons were reduced to 10 men late in the second half when Jack MacKenzie was sent off, but Bojan Miovski popped up with his 10th goal of the season to hand Barry Robson’s side the victory. Aberdeen will face Rangers in the final after the Light Blues defeated Heart of Midlothian 3-1 in Sunday’s second semi-final. This will be the first time these sides have met in a cup final since the 2000 Scottish Cup final, which Rangers won 4-0, and the first meeting in the final of this competition since the 1992/93 final which Rangers won 2-1.

3 – Kilmarnock climbed to 4th in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over Motherwell at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park. Innes Cameron scored the only goal of the game to hand Derek McInnes’ side a third win in their last four matches. Killie have won three consecutive home matches in the top flight for the first time since the 2018/19 campaign, when Steve Clarke’s side won five on the spin. The Ayrshire club are now unbeaten in their last four home matches against the Steelmen, picking up three wins and a draw.

10 – Dunfermline Athletic defeated Greenock Morton 2-1 at Cappielow to move into the top four of the cinch Championship. Owen Moffat scored two goals in the opening seven minutes to hand the Pars their first league win since they defeated the same opponents at East End Park in September. Friday night’s success was Dunfermline’s first win at Cappielow since March 2017, when Nat Wedderburn scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory – since then they had visited Greenock 10 times, losing five and drawing five.

5 – Montrose moved up to 3rd place in the cinch League 1 table courtesy of a 5-1 thumping of Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium. Luke Graham, Kane Hester, Michael Gardyne, Miller Thomson and Craig Brown were all on the scoresheet for Stewart Petrie’s side as they picked up their fifth win in their last seven league matches. The last time Montrose had five different goalscorers in a match was back in September 2010 when they defeated Clyde 8-1 at Links Park – current captain Paul Watson was one of the goalscorers that day and also featured in Saturday’s match.

5 – Peterhead defeated East Fife 2-0 at Balmoor to hold on to top spot in cinch League 2. Kieran Shanks and Jordon Brown found the net to keep the Blue Toon two points clear of Dumbarton and Spartans and three ahead of Stenhousemuir. Shanks took his tally to five league goals for the season – he is currently joint top goalscorer in the division alongside teammate Conor O’Keefe, Matty Aitken of Stenhousemuir and Neil Martyniuk of Bonnyrigg Rose. Peterhead have won five consecutive league matches for the first time since February-March 2019, when they managed six on the bounce on their way to winning the League 2 title.
