Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

2 – Kilmarnock defeated Celtic 2-1 at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park to climb to 5th in the cinch Premiership table. Celtic’s half-time lead was cancelled out by a Nat Phillips own goal, before Matthew Kennedy popped up with a late winner for the Ayrshire side. It was Kennedy’s first goal for Killie, over 12 years after he made his debut as a 17-year-old in his first spell. Brendan Rodgers has now lost 10 domestic matches as Celtic manager, and four of those have come against Kilmarnock – no other Scottish side has beaten him more than twice. Derek McInnes’ men have now defeated Celtic twice this season – the last time Killie beat the Hoops twice in a season was back in their title-winning 1964/65 campaign.

8 – Aberdeen climbed to 9th in the cinch Premiership thanks to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Heart of Midlothian at Pittodrie. After trailing at half-time, Bojan Miovski equalised early in the second half then Leighton Clarkson secured three points with a stoppage-time winner. The Dons have now won eight consecutive matches against Hearts at Pittodrie, and are unbeaten in their last 11 – their last defeat was back in May 2016. Incredibly, they have simultaneously gone 11 games without a victory at Tynecastle – the last time either side won away from home in this fixture was a 2-1 win for the Dons in Edinburgh in May 2017.

10 – Dundee United defeated Ayr United 1-0 at Tannadice to maintain their unbeaten start to the cinch Championship season and hold on to top spot. Kai Fotheringham netted the only goal of the game to make it seven goals in his last six matches. The 20-year-old has now scored 10 goals this season –  seven in the league and three in cup competitions. Jim Goodwin’s side have 10 wins and four draws from their opening 14 league matches, and have already kept more clean sheets (8) than they did in their entire 2022/23 cinch Premiership campaign (7).

8 – Cove Rangers beat Annan Athletic 3-1 at Galabank in cinch League 1 to continue their impressive winning run. Rumarn Burrell netted a hat-trick for the second league match in a row to take his tally for the season to 15 goals, including 12 in the league. Paul Hartley’s side have now won eight consecutive matches in all competitions, having won just four of their opening 12. They are now just one short of their longest winning run since joining the SPFL – that was set in Hartley’s previous spell when they won nine in a row between November 2021 and January 2022 on their way to winning the cinch League 1 title.

6 – Stenhousemuir moved five points clear at the top of cinch League 2 thanks to a 1-0 victory away to Dumbarton. James Berry’s late goal extended the Warriors’ unbeaten league run to 11 matches – their only league defeat this season came at home to the Sons back in August. Gary Naysmith’s side have won six consecutive league matches for the first time in three decades – the last time Stenhousemuir recorded six on the spin in the league was back in February-March 1994.
