Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

1 – Dundee United moved to the top of the cinch Championship thanks to a 1-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Caledonian Stadium on Friday night. Tony Watt scored the only goal of the game to take Jim Goodwin’s side ahead of Raith Rovers on goal difference at the summit. The Terrors remain unbeaten away from home in the league, with eight wins and two draws from 10 matches – they have only conceded two league goals on the road this season. United are now unbeaten in nine matches against the Caley Jags in all competitions, winning eight and drawing one.

2 – Queen’s Park defeated Raith Rovers 2-1 at Stark’s Park to climb to eighth place in the cinch Championship table. Cameron Bruce and debutant Sean Welsh scored as the Spiders came from behind to give Callum Davidson a victory in his first game in charge. Queen’s Park have now recorded back-to-back wins, having previously gone 15 matches without a victory.

2 – Hamilton Academical beat Cove Rangers 2-0 at New Douglas Park to close the gap at the top of cinch League 1 to nine points, with a game in hand. Kevin O’Hara scored for a third consecutive game, and Jamie Barjonas added a second goal to secure all three points for John Rankin’s side. Accies have kept 11 clean sheets in their 20 league matches this season, which is the joint highest in the division alongside leaders Falkirk (who have played one game more).

1 – Stirling Albion moved further clear of the cinch League 1 relegation places thanks to a 1-0 victory over Montrose at Links Park. Callum Crane’s debut goal – he was later sent off –was enough to give Darren Young’s side all three points and move them to within four points of their opponents, who currently occupy the final promotion play-off spot. The Binos have lost just one of their last five matches, and that came against league leaders Falkirk.

11 – Stenhousemuir moved 14 points clear at the top of cinch League 2 thanks to a 2-0 victory over The Spartans at Ainslie Park. Goals from Matty Yates and Matty Aitken moved the Warriors another step closer to sealing their first ever league title. Gary Naysmith’s side have now won 11 league matches in a row, breaking the previous club record of 10 set in 1960/61. In the last 50 years, there have only been 25 other winning runs of 11 matches or longer across all divisions of the Scottish League, and only five of those have been recorded by clubs other than Celtic or Rangers.
