Weekend in Numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the stories behind the numbers...

15 – Celtic defeated St Johnstone 3-1 at Celtic Park to move back to the top of the cinch Premiership table.

Goals from Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest helped Brendan Rodgers’ side take advantage of Rangers’ postponement to move a point ahead of their rivals. Forrest’s goal was his first of 2024 – the winger has now scored for Celtic in 15 consecutive years, starting with a strike against Motherwell on his debut in 2010.

The Hoops are now unbeaten in their last 29 matches against Saints in all competitions, a run which includes 25 wins and four draws. St Johnstone’s last win over Celtic was back in May 2016.

5 – Kilmarnock climbed back up to fourth place in the cinch Premiership thanks to an incredible 5-2 comeback victory over St Mirren at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park.

Saints led 2-0 with half an hour remaining, but Kyle Vassell (2), Danny Armstrong, Marley Watkins and David Watson all scored within the space of 18 minutes to give Derek McInnes’ side a crucial win. It is the first time in almost 20 years that Killie have won a league match after trailing by two goals – the last time was a 4-2 home win over Livingston in May 2004.

The last time Killie scored five goals in one half was back in April 1999, when they scored five second-half goals in a 6-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park.

5 – Airdrieonians defeated Arbroath 5-2 at the Excelsior Stadium to climb into the top four in the cinch Championship.

Arron Lyall, Liam McStravick, Mason Hancock, Charlie Telfer and Craig Watson were all on the scoresheet as the Diamonds moved above Morton into the final promotion play-off place. The last time Airdrie scored five goals in a second tier fixture was way back in 2008, when they defeated Greenock Morton 5-0 at the Excelsior. Rhys McCabe’s side are now unbeaten in their last five matches, picking up three wins and two draws.

5 – Alloa Athletic moved up to third in cinch League 1 courtesy of a 5-2 victory over Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium.

A Scott Taggart double, goals from Luke Donnelly and Taylor Steven and a Callum Pitt own goal handed Andy Graham’s side a comprehensive victory. The Wasps have won seven of their last eight matches, with their only blemish being a 4-3 defeat to Montrose. Alloa have scored 23 goals in those matches and St Johnstone loanee Steven has contributed seven of those strikes.

It is just the third time this century that the Wasps have scored five or more goals in an away match – they beat Albion Rovers 5-1 in March 2013 and Stranraer 5-2 in August 2016.

6 – Dumbarton thumped Spartans 6-2 at Ainslie Park to climb back into third place in cinch League 2.

Ryan Blair scored twice and Aron Lynas, Gallagher Lennon, Michael Ruth and James Graham also found the net as Stevie Farrell’s side moved above their opponents in the table on goal difference.

The last time the Sons scored six goals away from home was back in August 2011, when East Fife were beaten 6-0 in Methil. Saturday’s success was Dumbarton’s first ever win over Spartans – they had met on four previous occasions with Spartans winning once and the other three finishing as draws.
