15 – Airdrieonians won the 2023/24 SPFL Trust Trophy with a 2-1 victory over The New Saints at the Falkirk Stadium on Sunday. The Welsh champions took an early lead, but goals from Liam McStravick and Nikolay Todorov ensured the Diamonds kept the trophy in Scotland. Airdrie’s last success in the competition was 15 seasons ago, when they defeated Ross County on penalties following a 2-2 draw at McDiarmid Park. At 31 years old, Rhys McCabe is the youngest manager ever to win the trophy. The win extends Airdrie’s unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions – they sit fourth in the cinch Championship with eight games to play and will be hoping for a second consecutive promotion to sit alongside their trophy.
21 – Queen’s Park defeated Ayr United 2-1 at Somerset Park to leapfrog their opponents into 7th place in the cinch Championship table. Goals from Ruari Paton and Cillian Sheridan helped the Spiders move four points clear of the relegation play-off spot, and to within three points of Airdrie in fourth. Callum Davidson’s side are now unbeaten in five matches, with Paton and Sheridan netting seven goals between them across those games. Paton now has 21 goals for the season in all competitions, which equals the highest seasonal tally of any Queen’s Park player this century – Jamie Longworth also scored 21 in 2011/12.
4 – Falkirk moved a step closer to sealing the cinch League 1 title with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Edinburgh City at the Falkirk Stadium. Callumn Morrison scored all four goals to keep John McGlynn’s side 17 points clear of Hamilton Academical with just six matches remaining. Morrison is the first Bairns player to score four goals in a game since Alex Rae in a 6-0 win over Albion Rovers at Brockville in September 1989. Morrison now has 21 goals in cinch League 1, making him the top league scorer in the SPFL. Only three other Falkirk players this century have managed 20 or more league goals in a season - Owen Coyle (20 in 2002/03), Lyle Taylor (24 in 2012/13) and Rory Loy (20 in 2013/14).
10 – Annan Athletic beat Kelty Hearts 3-2 at Galabank to keep their chances of cinch League 1 survival alive. Goals from Aidan Smith, Lewis Hunter and Benjamin Luissint helped Peter Murphy’s side race into a three-goal lead, and they survived a fightback to keep all three points. The Galabankies are unbeaten in their last four matches and remain just three points behind Queen of the South and four behind both Kelty and Stirling Albion in the battle to avoid ninth place. Annan have picked up 17 points from their last 10 games, having previously taken just 13 from their opening 20 matches.
7 – East Fife defeated Stranraer 2-1 at MGM Timber Bayview Stadium to keep up their hopes of a top-four finish in cinch League 2. Dick Campbell’s side trailed at half-time, but goals from James Lyon and Jack Healy handed them a victory which moves them to within six points of Spartans in the final play-off spot. The Fifers are now unbeaten in seven matches, winning four and drawing three – this is their best run since they went nine unbeaten from August to October 2019. East Fife now have four wins and a draw in their last five matches against Stranraer.
